Miracle gro is most definitely a no go, and if you do use fox farms ocean forest any time soon do not give veg nutrients! It's what I've been using and good lord that is hot soil. But very good quality as long as you don't overfeed it.

I wouldn't be worried about it. You don't need the light to be too intensive at this stage but yeah a couple cfl's will always do wonders.

I've always threw em in a glass of filtered water, let em sink, wait for my tap root to pop out, and then it's a little less than a quarter inch into the soil and under lights. Never had a problem unless they were already suspect seeds.
