I thought spider mites were the borg, but at least I could see them and the damage early on. these guys are invisible until the damage is done, not fair. lol.

Sound like that "great guy" sold you some old seeds. All the seeds I've bought this past year have had great germ rates, all regular seeds. But I have some vintage seeds from back in the day, 15+ years old, and I've yet to get one to sprout.

Once the leaves change color they'll stay that way. I wouldn't bother removing them at this point, let the plant use them up a little more before removing. Just watch the newer growth to see you've improved the issue.

The damage done is done, it will never repair itself. You have to watch the new growth to see if it has helped.
