Because the tap water is going to have beneficial chemicals and minerals for mushroom cultivation. Some chlorine is going to help in the amount present. I usually add some h2o2 to my misting and dunking water anyways. You would be fine using ro for your soaking and pre pasteurization field...

Yep. When I don't make enough bulk sub and end up with exposed grains, I'll let it colonize then put a casing later on top. Let that colonize about 60-70% then I'll put in my polyfill to start fae.
