I had the same deal, it hurt like a bitch after I was back to normal... Didn't smoke as it's really bad to smoke anything (weed, cigs, whatever) with an open wound in your mouth, just a bad idea, will make it take longer to heal, hurt more, etc.

Cool idea, they sell little rubber liners that can go around the seal of the case that can make it 100% air-tight to get rid of any smell, if that's a concern. I think it's a no-name thing you can pick up at bestbuy if memory serves me right, or if they even still sell them.
