Did you look carefully under the leaves for mites or aphids?

It seems to have worked well. I think the greasy oil and soap drown or suffocate them. These are aphids. I am not sure if the oil is greasy enough to stay around and kill the eggs. It is a cheap option but not ideal. The plants held up fine and I drenched them.
