I have done that when making chocolates. It seems that it does not get strong enough. I think to deal with the smell i may water cure the already dry bud for 7 days. Then use it to make butter. That should take allot of the smell etc out.

I did not veg long. only till the plants where about 6 to 8 inches tall. So they grow another 10+ inches after 12/12.

I noticed a very strong lemon pledge smell from the Indica one pictured above. The others had a skunk/musky haze smell to them. After they are dry i should have a better idea.

I have both pheno.s Sativa pheno with long branches and lots of stretch. Long spaces between buds. THis plant was topped at the start of 12/12. The weight of the buds are pulling down the branches. Indica pheno. Short branches and buds all the way up the stem.
