well for a commercial easily available locally perlite lowes has the MG perlite for 3.88 i believe for 8 quarts it does have some N in it if i remember correct so take that into consideration when adding nutes

yeah bud i wouldnt worry about the purpling on that. if i may make a suggestion as ive done it in the past aswell... when using coco or peat add some perlite, without it the medium can compact on ya by adding it the medium will be lighter and airier with less restriction on the roots look...
