I don't think it makes a difference, fact is a 1/4 OZ of standard marijuana back then(whatever that may be) is still a helluva lot weaker than a 1/4 OZ today. It doesn't even matter if the weed was the strongest back in the 60's and 70's, if it's cut to shit it still has less thc/per weight.

One 1000 watter could also nicely light two 3' trays at 55w per sqft, which seems to be most efficient for the SoG I would like to put together.

A question about flowering time, If your growing a strain that may take a little longer than 8 weeks, can you just let the plants spend a few more days in each tray? Like they're rotated every 2 weeks and three days rather than every 2 weeks so in the end it adds up to a little over 9 weeks.

Hmm, I've also seen many grow journels of people using 600's for 4by4 areas and greater. I think I'll do a 600 over each 4by4 and see how it works out. Maybe I could I could line between the trays with two or three 50 or 60 watt CFL's.

Sorry about that. So that means a 600w 90k HPS falls well short of ideal for a 4' by 4' area ( about1200mm^2) and provides an average amount of light for a 3' by 3' area? Do you think I could get away with a 600w over a 4' by 4'?

I've herd this number as the minimum, however I've also herd that 5000 lumens per sq ft indoors is ideal. Which one is it? Because if you do the math than a 600 watt, 90000 lumen is only 37w per sq/ft in a 4'by4' area, however it's also 7500 lumens per sq/ft, maybe around 5000 considering...
