i dont wanna jynx u bro. but you seem like you really love you plants. which is awesome in all respects. but the number one mistake by new growers is, loving their plants to death. btw, ive never seen those types of bulbs used for growing.

those bulbs are possible to use, but there very weak, there pretty much like the reptile lights, i had a buddy who used one before, and it actully did make the thing about 3 and a half feet tall, but it was very skinny, and i dont think it ever flowered or anything, but it grew that sucker somewhat!

so anyways sea of green, they'll be alright for your seedlings, but since you saved all that money, might wanna get you some lights, you can get a hps/mh combo set up, for 164 at htgsupply.com

if u cant afford, always can get some cfl's and if you search this forum for cfl grows, some are not bad as long as you pay attention to what your doin, which i think you will. you just wanna make sure you got enough cfl's, they say you need atleast 150 watts total of cfl light for each plant, correct me if im wrong though guys.
and cfl's are cheap, i hear people getting ones for a dollar a bulb or somthin at home depot? not sure on that one though.

the light will last ya for a week or 2, but try to get some cfls if you wanna be searious about this.

billybob- what do you mean by loving them to death? overcaring/watering/ferting them? thanks for the heads up. as for the lights, neither have i but it said reflectoraGRO on them and they where FREE so they at 120w ea are better then a bunch more regular light bulbs (cool white ect)

they may have the high watts, but they dont put out the color spectrum you need, they have some blue, but very little compared to cfl and flouros.

I totally agree with you. if i grew cfl i would def want 100-150 watts per plant at least. anyways like dubbuh said those lights are suited for reptiles. you can grab some cfls at any HD, Lowes etc, but then youve broken the $0 rule! :blsmoke:

billybob-yeah those are the lampholders i plan on using w/ my BIG grow. and btw SICK SETUP BRO well worth the money you spent and i dunno how much you spent lol looks to be very effective and costworthy. good investment imo.
dubbuh-yeah i dunno much about the bulbs other then what i can read off them, i will be buying a htg kit 400w mh/hps setup on my next grow. this one is strictly free items, that where either given to me or "accquired" by me. :) as for cfl's on my next grow (or this one if i can find 'em free) those are the lights with names like "cool white" and "warm white" correct? if so anyone have any advice on which cfl's would be best for each stage? and 150w extra per plant in addition to the hps/mh combo? thanks for the input i appreciate you comments and will use the information to strengthen my $0 grow!!!

billybob-i know and i can't but like i said in my previous post, from what i heard they are pretty easy to come by and if they are the lights i'm thinking about (cool white & warm white) that come in regular bulbs and long tubes, i know i seen a bunch at my grandpa's i could get ahold of and i think he even has a few extra lamps to use them in... lmk so i'm sure on what i'm looking for. thanks again!

the long tubes are fluorescent tubes. suitable for growing but u need a bunch. cfls are fluorescent bulbs that are spiraly lookin. not a regular bulb bulb. pretty much the lighting that is suitable for growing is fluorescent varieties, HID, and LED.

billybob-ok i remeber they always say "SUPER DUPER CRAZY LONG LIFE!!!" right? can i just use them with a regular lamp? i can see if i can get ahold of any, any particular size(watts and lumens) shape (spiraly or a circle) or color(cool white, warm white ect) i should look for? thanks again. also just to clarify what exactly does a scrog entail? i kinda like what i see in your grow and can i do and aeroponic scrog?

in a scrog you train your plants to grow horizontally along the screen instead of vertically. this allows every budsite to get equal light. all the budsites turn into main colas. the small popcorn nugs u get at the bottom of the plant that are underdone once the top is done is eliminated because u trim everything underneath the screen 2 weeks into flowering. since the canopy is so dense no light get there, thus shitty buds. its just alot of work man. and for your first grow, i advise against it.

crdbrdnrollersk8-thank you! i really needed that...i won't i promise, even if it does compromise* the quality a little... so what it's middies anyway lol. i think it will make me happier to say i grew some ok middies without spending a dime! then saying i grew some awesome middies but spent all my money on the setup... thanks for the kind words it is really appreciated.

new pics will be up momentarily...

Never say it is okay if they're middies though. Mids are just marijuana that no one took care of. Just give them the love and they'll do you right. Would it count if someone else bought you something for the grow? Because i think if you had like 4 CFLs going (3-10$ depending on size) your plants would not only grow faster, but grow better. If you could get someone to buy you an birthday, or late Christmas gift , whatever and just get a little more light on those things, you should be fine. But if you can't do that, don't veg them for too long, with limited amounts of light, you have to be very careful about the size. They like get MUCH bigger when you flower and bigger plant=more light. You said something about 3 ft. plants or something and that's just too big. I'm looking at one right now that's about 3 ft. and it has like 15 CFLs on it right now. With low light growing (as opposed to HID lights), you should aim to have direct light on all the leaves. And this will speed up your total harvest time anyway. NOT A DIME!

In regards to cool light vs warm light cfl, cool like for veg and warm for flowering, warm has a bit more red spectrum

crdbrdnrollersk8-no if someone bought it for me, i still didnt spend any money so it would be fine imo. thanks for the idea! wanna buy me a late christmas present? lol. really appreciate the comments and info. it will be used to my advantage.
covert-thank you. helped out alot.

questions-
1) about how long should fresh seedlings take to pop through the soil?
2) so for 3-5 plants under cfl's(if i can get someone to buy/give me some) i heard 100w per plant is a good rule of thumb is this what i should shoot for?
3) should i get like half cool white and the other half warm white?
4) how long should i veg the plants for? 2 weeks? then start flowering? or more?
5) same for flowering, how long?
6) does anyone know it these are like heat lamps? they seem to get pretty hot inside the tank. the fan helps alot but still...
7) how ofter should i be watering these things i watered them last night and this morning the top soil was already dry...

thanks again to all that have helped and commented, keep the info and opinions/options coming it all helps alot

1.You should see you seedlings again in 48 hours.
2.Depends how big you go with the plants
3.Yeah, get a even combination
4.Depends how big you want em. So how big?
5.Depends on strain. Could be from 9-12 weeks. May be more with cfls.
6.Your gonna have to BUY something to cool that plave down. Done told ya
7.Well unless its too hot, you should only have to water seedlings every 2-3 days. Just when ever they gets dry. But dont water em too much or their roots wont grow as well. when you water, water good. So when the top soil is dry the soil under it wont be. This makes the roots grow down to search for their water. THE ROOTS MUST GROW!!! And plants drink more and faster the bigger they get.
