Today I took 24 cuttings from the 8 best (of my 9) plants.
The 9 plants are on DAY 48 of VEG and average out at 22" high with plenty side branches and bushiness.
I would have changed them to 12/12 a week ago but I needed to take cuttings before going onto FLOWER
and I couldn't take cuttings before my 200w CFL unit arrived.
200w CFL (6400k) is still with the courier (according to TRACKING INFO) so probably won't arrive until January 2nd
so I have suspended a 600w MH unit about 6ft above the propagator.
The 9 plants will go without their usual 6 hours darkness, today.
Then, tomorrow, the lights will go off at 6.30am and stay off until 7pm.
I WISH I COULD SEE THE HYGROMETER READINGS - Min/Max/Now Temp & RH - WITHOUT OPENING THE TENT BUT, for this crop, I cannot.
If it's a particularly cold day I will put on the room radiator.
The inline fan and one 6" clip on fan are the only things that stay on.
I have a basic fan speed controller on its way in the post and I will practise using this to reduce fan speed but still combat odours.
CUTTINGS
I mixed 600ml rain and 400ml tapwater to get EC0.3 pH 7.6
a splash of 2% pH Down brought it to pH 5.9
I then added 5ml of ROOT IT FIRST FEED = EC1.1, pH 5.6
I put the bucket in the tent until luke warm
I then soaked all 24 ROOTING SPONGES in the solution.
Taking each plant out, one at a time,
I labelled the pot - so L1 (Left 1) was the first, and the cuttings were L1A, L1B, L1C
Then L2 (Left 2) was next, cuttings L2A, L2B.....
Up to R3A, R3B and R3C.
24 Cutting/Clones.
The remaining SOAK SOLUTION will have a little RHIZOTONIC added
The EC/pH will be tested and, if necessary, adjusted to no more than EC1.0 and pH 5.4 to 6.0
This will be the cuttings first feeds and will be sprayed, as a fine mist, into the propagator.
Before replacing the Mother plants, under the HID, I pruned away as much of the lower branches and debris as I dare.
The 24 Cuttings (about 8 of which had theire leaves cut back - to prevent necrosis) went into the propagator and under the 600w MH
in the 8 x 4 tent. They already FILL the propagator - which caused me concern.
When the 200wCFL arrives, the propagator (and the 24 cuttings) will go under it.
Maybe I will hang it in the closet I had planned as the permanent Mother and Babies Area
OR I'll leave them in the big tent - It will be 6 weeks, minimum, before I need ALL of the 8 x 4 as a permanent FLOWER tent.
Next time I don't want to use the pre-moist sponges and sachets of 'FIRST FEED' and 'ROOTING GEL'.
I want to prepare 2 litres of rain/tap water with Canna Aqua Vega A&B, Cannazym and Canna RHIZOTONIC
To EC1.0, pH 5.8.
Make it luke warm and soak BOG STANDARD ROCKWOOL CUBES (36mm x 36mm).
Squeeze the excess solution out of them.
Then I will use some kind of Hormone/Rooting Gel, when the newly taken cutting is put in the hole.
The remaining 'soak solution' will be used as the cuttings first feeds and sprayed as a fine mist into the propagator.
