i have a 400w metal halide that i will put hps bulb in to bud with along with 2 cfls 6500k for veg and 2700k for budding and side lighting and i was wondering how many plants maximum i could bud with that setup

id stick with 4 mate unless you want a fight on your hands because thats wat they will be doing for the light

4 would be ideal, you could get away with 9 small ones in a 3x3 fashion, but if you let the veg too much they'll just be competing for light space like Bloomtastic said.
