10 plants, question about soil..

whats up guys, so i have 10 plants growing in 5 gallon buckets, widows, blacks, rasp. they are a week old after transplanting. everything is growing beautiful under two 400w MH. my questions is that this is my second grow using MG moist control. i watered my plants 4 days ago and the soil is still dark and moist. like yeah they top gets dry but i rake/ lightly flip the top of the soil every now and then. i like when the plants need water every 3- 4 days so i can keep the PH level adjusted. is this normal if i would have to water them every week or so ? thanks ...

I don't use MG soil but the soil I mixed ended up being kinda dense and held alot of water. Just be careful not to over water your plants. Water when the pots feel light and you should be fine. After they grow out more they will use more water and will require watering more frequently.

maybe YOU like to water that often but the plants don't want it. The soil should be bone dry almost before you water with that moisture control shit in it. Depending on how big your plants are and how dry your environment is it could take weeks to draw out all the water you dumped in them already.
Remember, overwatering is the #1 killer of indoor grown plants.

After I transplanted mine into 3 Gal. pots I watered once a week at the MOST. My plants are just now getting to the size they are needing water more frequently, around every 5 days or so, but like I said, feel the weight. When my pots feel light that is when I water. Alot of factors come into play when watering...temps, humidity, etc... all effect how often you will need to water.

I would say if you have to water only every week there are some problems... I think you may have a drainage problem... I would make sure you are getting proper drainage...

i dont have a drainage problem because i made extra holes on the bottom of the pot. i do have each pot sitting in an aluminum dish u use to put turkeys in so i dont have the drainage water going all over the place. after i water the plants the water that comes out i pour them all in a bucket so they dont sit in a pool. i will just follow my moist meter and when the pot gets light and low on the meter i will water them again. on my meter from 1-4 when should i water it on 2 right ?

i cut 2x4 into 5inches and places them underneath each pot so there will be more space for the water to drop then to being packed on the floor..

I'd wait till you're just into the #1 zone. Those meters are worth their weight in gold as far as I'm concerned.
Getting the probe to the base of the root ball could be a problem depending on how tall those pots are. I've probed from the drain holes up when I couldn't reach deep enough.

the meters are great. Many people, myself included, feel pot weight. It doesn't take long to get a feel for how heavy things are, and it becomes obvious when they need watering or not. As mentioned, these plants like a mellow drought between waterings.
