hello i have a htg 5x5 tent with the 1000 watt setup.this is the second grow in the tent for me.the first grow i had the metal halide in during veg and HPS for flower and everything went fine.well now my clones are in the tent and the last two days the mewtal halide will only come on to a slight glow and then go off all the way.this forces me to put in the HPS and switch ballast back HPS. do you guys know what could make this happen or where to start looking?

Do you have another lamp to connect to the ballast that's not working properly?
That's what I'd do first, if the new lamp works then that was your problem.

@ttystikk knows this...

Ty, what parts in the ballast need replacing? A cap and an ignitor? Did I get it right? Lol!

Sounds like the ballast will fire the HPS but not the MH, could something in that ballast need replacing?

are you positive you are running the right 1000 in it? check whether or not your ballast has bulb limitations, (I.e. pulse/probe start, vert/horiz/univer burning bulb.

a buddy of mine was using a bulb meant for probe start in a pulse start magnetic and it only started about 25% of the time after it was shut off fpr a while, and afyer about a month it would only start to this dull purple glow that you cpuld barely see unless it was completely dark in the room.

That's right. He may need an ignitor. Replace both components anyway, then it's just like new.

Hps lights but mh does not? Would think its the bulb.

To be sure, just try a new mh bulb. If it doesnt fire either then its the ballast...

if you bought rhe ballast new look in the manual and see what its meant to run. then there should be a code on your bulb (I.e. m1000-u) generally the last lettwr is burning position. may have to look up the code unless you still have the box itcame in.
