these are only 16-20 inches tall...they are in the 6th week from seed. I had been using 6 2 foot floros but my buddy had this MH lying around so I wanted to put it to use!

Put your hand over the top of the plants with the back of your hand facing the light. Keep the light far enough away that it isn't burning your hand. That's how i do it. You definately have to take into consideration that that 1000W MH lamp is gonna eliminate the humidity in your grow room. Even though the light might not be burning the tops, they might still suffer if you don't keep the humidity level where it should be.

if your investing in a 1000w bulb, why not invest in a water cooled unit??? youll be able to get them very close for MORE intensity!

I'd start out with it AT LEAST 3' from the tops, then start lowering it until you see signs of heat stress, then back off.
I am using 400w lights at between 15" and 18". It all depends on how much air flow you got going between the plant tops and the reflector. You gonna need a good fan blowing on them. The plants in the front row of my room get blown around real good, the ones in the back get a good breeze. Make sure you are moving the air well.
I found a 1000w MH and am thinking about getting it. How much do those footballs run? And where would you get one?

And yeah, you're gonna have to mount it to the ceiling. I use the electric cord to hang the reflector. I'll post pics later 2nite or tomorrow. It's an easy set up, and really easy to raise and lower the lights.

so this is too much power for a closet set up....unless I remove the shelf....hmmm or maybe this is too much power for only 6 plants...

Yeah, I'd say that it's way overkill for a closet grow. You're gonna play mortal hell keeping temps down. Someone who does the closet thing might disagree, but I'd think that one 400w would be the MAX I'd use in the average closet.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount your bagseed. That shit has a habit of turning out far and above better than it's origin. I have changed my mind about ordering seed.

I've never grown in a closet, but I would think you could do it with the right 1000W light fixture, like one with a cooling tube, plus a humidifier and plenty of air intake and exhaust. Otherwise it's gonna really cook inside that closet. So using a regular 1000W fixture with just your average reflector probably ain't gonna work for you.
