1000 watt questions and problems

So, to start off let me say, I have never been succeful in growing indoors (I've vegged some beautiful plants just never got em to finding flowering).

I have a 1000 watt light that is dimable In a 4x4 tent.
With what I have been told is good ventilation (6 inch 400cfm fan pulling air out of the hood and exhausting out a window in the room the tent is in)

Now, when I fist got my light
I popped open a ton of bag seeds
Using the 400watt mh with the light at the top of tent.

Seeds came up
And I waited a week and lowered the light a hair
Each day for an hour
And the plants did not like it
Tried leaving the light high and slowly adjusting for a bit each day to the 600wat from 400watt
Still didn't like it
(I have two thermometers in the tent 1 at canopy and 1 at soil level)
Temps in the mid 70s on both

Bassicly the plants didn't like more light
According to the thermometers it wasnst the temps and I've tried so many ways to adjust up to using the 1000watt

I've tried with clones bag seeds
Many times
I'm coming to the conclusion that the plants don't need 1000watts
Or barley 600
Watts

This time around is the furthest I've made it

I'm on about the 6th day of flowering

When the lights kicked on the plants seemed very perky and happy at 600watts
So I figured now is a good time to shoot em up to the 1k (my plan was to leave it on for 1 hour or so)
Fell asleep the 1k stayed on about 3feet above cannopy for 12 hours

All the plants are now sagging down and look like shit

Lights are off or I'd put a pic up

Here's what they looked like before the 1k massacre View attachment 3600981
When the lights come back on I'll put a pic of em up

They all looked slumped...

I'm starting to ramble out of frustration

Anyways

I'm wondering how you guys use ur 1ks?
I've read some people saying they keep a 1k 1ft away?lol

I feel like if I did that my plants would be dead super fast....

And the most confusing part is like I said my temps aren't high...

It's just from too much light ?

I thought there was no such thing?

I'm not ruling out that it could be something else...
As I am semi new to growing
( two sucsesfull seasons outside
Vegged many mothers and made many clones using t5)
It just leads me to believe it's the light as soon as its pumped up
The plants go to shit...

Coinsadice ?

Idk you guys tell me

HMMM...I see 2 issues here. 1 That is too many plants for your light foot print and 2 An over anxious parent 'loving their plants too death' They look fine so relax! Keep your 1000w going put your hand at the top of the canopy if it gets uncomfortable for you, the light is too close, move it up until you can comfortably keep your hand between light and plant canopy.

Good Luck and Great Growing

I totally agree w/previous post. Relax. Plants are like people; they don't like change but they'll get used to it if given enough time to cope.
I intentionally stress my plants but it makes em tougher & more productive in the long run.

BTW I do quite well in a 5 x 5 tent with a 600w HPS + satellites (LED & CFL UVB)
It's all about spectrum and canopy penetration.

I'd like to meet these people who keep their 1000w's 1ft above the canopy....they must be doing something magical
