1000W HPS - How many plants per light?

One option is to let them grow big under one 1000W, but I'm worried about the unequal size of them.

My idea was to take 12 cuttings from them and place 6 clones under one 1000W and another 6 clones under another 1000W.

Then I would plant 9 seeds for a third 1000W and another 9 seeds for a fourth 1000W, IN A HOPE of being able to have all the plants under the same lightning schedule, thus flowering and harvesting them at the same time too...

Do I have a green light?

If you want to keep them your idea of cloning them for further productin is a sound one.

The unevenness of them can be rectified by some LST or just by topping.

The plants you see on the picture are feminized Liberty Haze by The Barney's Farm, but the seeds which I'm about to plant are feminized Critical Kush by The Barney's Farm.

Put the ones in the pic under 1 kw and you WILL see some super fast growth and some nice dense buds with HPS in the end

The thing is that I want to have all 4000W under the same lightning schedule. I want to switch to flowering at the same time. I don't want to isolate them from another... so I think if I let the ones that you see on the picture veg for another 6 weeks, which is about the amount of time that would be neccessary for my "seeds" before I could switch them to flower mode, then they would take too much room by the time they are flowering. This is why I figured it would be a good idea to take cuttings from them, in order to be able to have a better control of the entire grow.

So I'd be having 6 clones under one 1000W, 6 clones under another 1000W, 9 seeds under a third 1000W, and 9 seeds under a fourth 1000W..........

.. but don't you think it would be better to take the cuttings in this case? ----->

Start topping and supercropping, that will make height irrelevant, you can keep em all the same height but some will be 2' around and some 3.5' around, once your canopy is solid all the way across let em grow vertically a few inches and flip. Thats my suggestion

I think that if you gave your plants another week or two you should be able to get the amount of cuttings you desire (based on all the new lower growth)

I'm worried that they would grow simply too big for the area that one 1000W HPS can effectively cover, if I let them veg for another 6 weeks.

Exactly what I thought.

Now I will just need to decide if I wanna go the cloning route or do I want to grow trees out of them.

They get too big you top and train some more, its easier to dictate where they will grow by training them than it is to let em grow straight up and letting them branch where they want, some phenos branch up and some branch out, some stretch a lot and some stretch a few inches, growing from seed is a crap shoot, you never really know for sure what they will do when you flip, make them grow the way you want in veg, thats what veg is for, train em correctly in veg and flowers a breeze

This line presents the limit of the room that is available for the plants (12,3 x 6,2 feet = 3,74 x 1.9 meters)

I installed an extractor fan that is going to be ventilating the room. It is able to move 800 cubic meters of air per hour at 100 pascals = 470 cubic feet per minute at 0,4 water column. I also installed a regulator to the ventilation that gives me an opportunity to switch between 5 speed levels. I also installed a noise reducer, which is quite big, but it makes the ventilation almost silent. If I go next to the door, then I can hear the wind blowing though :) awesome stuff.

Well said. Seems logical too.

That means I will plant 3 x 9 seeds into the rockwool cubes for the first thing as I wake up. Might put some Bob Marley playing for the background :)

Phew.. I feel so much better now.

.. and I will quickly need to educate myself about the subject of topping and training to apply these techniques to the present plants. They grow fast.

I have 9 plants in a 54"X54" grow tent under a 1000 watt HPS(pic below). They vegged for a bit more than 4 weeks, but they were rooted clones. My last grow I did 13 plants with a 3 week veg... My area is a bit smaller, but similar enough and feel that the outer perimeter of my grow could've used more light, in comparison. I personally would use two 600 watts for a 5 X 5 grow space. It might seem like over kill to some, but unless your looking for great "numbers" in terms of grams per watt, it'll give you the most bang for your buck.

Here they are. How far do you think I am from being able to take 12 cuttings from them?

bro about the only constant on these forums is one question will get you 12 different answers
...so while everyone has thier opinion on when to get clones, all I can tell you is from my own experience:

from seed & under 6 weeks yields wack clones, few even root and/or are slower to develop
...a clone of a clone, then the aformentioned doesn't seem as relevant...
....after 2 weeks into flower you seem to get plants with fewer "fingers", seems many clones will have only 3-5 fingers through flower (not sure if that actually matters but it seems to be consistently true)

I dunno, do whatever you deem best, but I've had better luck with a 8 week old doner and dipping the cuttings in a VERY mild beach/water solution and thence into cheapo Walmart rooting powder and thence into moist vermiculite; no heat, no dome ...roots in less than 10 days
