1000w hps/mh grow room advice

I had the same problem with inkbird controlling my air conditioner because it was digital. Only will control the analog type, I found out
Yeah the digital ones don’t reset well. That got me thinking though. What if I could just break exe ehot leg to the compressor instead of the entire unit...that should give the level of control you’d want. Would need to run similar set up for the fan blower as you wouldn’t want that constant either as fan only mode is gonna pull outside air in so if it’s too cold you’ll freeze your plants at night food for thought. A simple time delay relay would suffice. Wire the blower to come on soon as the sensors call and have the compressor run through a time delay of say 10 seconds or so. Interesting concept

Since you don't have much in it, get a vented hood and run your light heat separate from the room, to/ from outside preferably. The ac should keep the room cool. Put a carbon filter and fan venting from your grow to the outside to keep a negative pressure on the room so odors stay in check.
The lights actually got a vented hood. Not a cool tube but is set up to be vented so that’s a plus. I’ll dump it out the room but I’m hoping the ac can balance the pressure with the exhaust. I’m just hoping i can get temps dialed in and controlled properly with that window unit. I mean I’d like to get within at least a 4-5 degree deadband but window units are a pain.

Can you intake the light from the outdoors, and exhaust it to the outdoors?
Yeah I guess I could do that. Just remove one side of the window seal flashing next to the window unit. But what about all that moisture going across that hot ass bulb if it rains? I looked at your grow grow box. Looks good dude. You gotten the solenoid functional yet? What’s the cracked iPad being used for?

As long as you aren't sucking in actual rain you'll be fine. That'll vent your light heat, now you'll have to just worry about radiant heat. You'll be fine with radiant heat and ac. Vent your tent like normal (carbon filter/fan on a temp switch) I'd use a 4". Exhaust that outdoors, too. Intake will be the air leaks around your ac. It'll take care of smell. Run a small humidifier in the tent if you have to for veg.

The computer is a Surface Pro 3, I dropped it in a parking lot and they replaced it, they let me keep it. It still works, just no touch screen. I look up stuff if I need to with it.
I kind of changed gears and went hydro, so I'm not going to need the solenoid anymore. I don't really need the humidifier anymore, I was using it less and less, then just took it out, so I don't need to top that off. I'm in there checking ph and ec often enough that I don't need one to fill tanks either.

-edit. By tent I mean your small room.

Right on makes since. I’ve got a 6” 440cfm in-line fan for exhausting up to the roof vent so that should be fine there. Gonna test out venting light from outside air and exhausting out once I get it set up. It’ll be a couple few weeks before the girls go in so that’ll give me some run time to test the environment with everything on. Thanks for the advice main.

Oh ok I see. I tried a DWC setup once but failed miserably. Couldn’t get temps right. Soils easier for me. What hydro setup did you go with?

On a side note. You want that light and it's exhaust fan on the same circuit. That way they trip together if they trip at all. If the fan trips and the light stays on you might have a fire hazard.

Yeah I was planning on that. The exhaust will run based on a temp by the light. I’ll set a program in my controller for a day and night application. Days would cycle the exhaust based off temp and at night I’ll have it set up so it recirculates the air for about a minute every couple hours to keep air fresh. If it gets too cold it will cycle on a small space heater to keep temp within ranges I want. I guess I should of mentioned better, when it comes to controls I can automate anything with a great deal of accuracy. The only concern I have with this setup I’m going with is that window unit but I’ll break it apart this weekend and test just breaking the hot leg to the compressor and see how it holds up with temps. Only thing I would need if I can get the WU working the way I want is a humidifier but in Texas the humidities pretty damn high anyway so I’ll see how it goes the first few weeks and adjust as needed.

Edit- both the light and exhaust will be wired to the same circuit. Ac would be on another and then everything else on another. Three dedicated circuits for the entire room basically. Got more if needed later on.

Your humidity will go up at night, so can figure that in too.
Im banking on the fact that We usally have pretty humid winters as this grow will finish in that time but the summer session I’ll have to readjust I’m sure. As long as I can keep it around 50-60% during veg I’ll be fine i think. Was thinking around 40-45% during flower. Sound about right? The humidity will be the hardest for me to regulate without going out of pocket for a dehumid/humid unit. The whole idea is that all of this gear is being given to me so I’m trying to keep from spending anything on it other than the room itself. Only thing my buddy wants is a chunk of the harvest which is fair. For at least the first grow as I’ll give him 80% of it when it’s done. So for my time and risk it’ll pay off what he gave me lol. The next is all mines

I’ll have all the specs on the gear this weekend and will post some pictures of it all. I am excited to try the Dutch pro nuets though. I’ve heard good things about them. And the exhaust fan has a built in speed controller so if it’s too much I can ramp it down as needed and so on. My plan is self sufficiency really. Set it and leave it. Adjust light height manually and the rest will hopefully be automated. I do commercial building automation so I’ve got all the know how and tools really. Just a question of how far I wanna go with it lol. I’d like to get a reservoir set up so I can have a drip system and set watering times but in my experience it always over watered or under watered and was hard to dial in so I’d just go back to gallon of distilled water and nuets. Gonna look Into running the plumbing through an RO system this time to save the trips for water every week lol.

Figure on dehumidifying outside the box and pulling that in. Don't go overboard on one or you'll have a heat problem as well. Your ac should be able to handle a mid size one.

yeah id set it outside the room and vent In. I dig your little box for your WU on your forum. Crafty really. What’s your lights setup? Specs? I used to grow cfls all the time. I’ve actually got a miniature gorilla grow tent 1x1x2 that I ran with 6 cfls. Got the tent from a local hydro supplier that was a demo. Pretty cool actually. Great for a small herb garden.

And you’re doin great with a 4’ height? Idk why I was even worried about mine then lol. So you've scrapped the led and cfl diy lights? Or is that being used stillnin the veg box?
That was a stand in. It actually did a badass job, just a lot of free air heat to dump. I have a T5 in veg, and going to add another soon.
With 4' height I can't grow like normal. I've always grown scrog. So my current setup is meant for clones to go veg until 12", then go to flower. Flower will be sog, scrog. I'm running a perpetual harvest, so something goes in and comes out every 3 weeks.

Why can’t we be neighbors lol. I’ve done a few scrogs but was never really constrained to height limits so usually I would just top a few times and let em go but I’ve gotten some pretty decent results with scrogs and it’s something I want to perfect. The idea of having a flat canopy of tops gives me chills lol. How much time you down to between harvests?

It's a perpetual harvest. So 3 stages. Clones getting rooted for 3 weeks, then they go to veg for 3 weeks, then they go to flower for 9 weeks. Every three weeks I start a new batch.
The flower room works this way: 9 weeks. Every 3 weeks 1/3 of the plants go in, 1/3 come out. that 1/3 was in there for 9 weeks. So I get a 1/3 box harvest every three weeks.......That's the plan anyway. So far I'm 6 weeks into that.

I’ll be honest man, that sounds like a hectic schedule lol. I remember my first harvest, I just wanted it to be over. Was tired of the trimming but having to only deal with 1/3 of the grow every 3 weeks isn’t too bad. I’d throw a break in there like every 18 weeks just to get a little RR lol. Growing buds can be tiresome lol

I get 3 weeks downtime in between. Plus I really enjoy it, if you couldn't tell.
