1000w lights without individual ballasts? (40+ lights)

I wanted to ask this issue here before I raise it with my electrician.

I will be dealing with 40+ 1000k lights in an industrial setup. This is about 5x larger than any setup I've previously attempted. I am a legal commercial grower.

In the past, I've always had external ballasts. I am wondering if there is a more sophisticated route to go (not to mention less expensive) given the scale of this setup.

It seems crazy to have one ballast for each light. There must be a way to regulate ALL of the electricity going to the lights instead of individually through single ballasts.

As far as I have ever seen, every lamp has to have its own ballast, larger commercial grows or just warehouses, parking lots and department stores tend to utilize lighting with a built on ballast or have a custom wiring job done wherein they have all the external ballasts wired to a single point, or wall. I tried googling it and came up with diddly. Perhaps there is something out there, you would think so anyways. I don't think you will be able to escape the cost factor though.

Sorry bud! Each light needs it's own ballast. It's because of the way they start up - like any parking lot full of cars (some will kick right over, while others will grind and turn for awhile first!). You've seen what I'm talking about, some lights come on quickly; some lights take a little longer! The point is, they don't all react at exactly the same instant! That's the problem, because of the way the ballast works.

The ballast is a "Two Step Operation". Step One - it gives a high voltage "kick in the ass" to get the bulb "going". Step Two - once the bulb has "ignited" the voltage is dropped back down to the bulb's "normal running voltage".

A single ballast can't react to multiple "ignition times", it would be like a bunch of kids (each with thier own remote control - and a different favorite channel) trying to operate a TV - pandamonium.

an idea on a set up is just like a super store and the way they set up there lights up, the ballast are on the top of the light dome and all .. just run the pipe for wiring and each ballast on its own box with the socket separated and put in a cool tube , all magnetic ballast and can be run on 220volt. but as much as it sucks. each light needs a ballast .. sorry ,, but we would like to see the fukin massive set up please:joint:
