1000w or 2 x 600w HPS and heat...

So, Im upgrading soon. Going to get a 1.2x1.2x2m tent, or possibly the 1.4x1.4m tent.

I was just going to get a 1000w HPS with an air cooled hood, but now Im wondering if 2 x 600w will be better.

As I understand it, there are more lumens per watt with the 600, so I'll get more lumens with the two 600s, especially with the 200 extra watts. And with two bulbs, I should get better coverage, and can have the plants closer. One drawback is less penetration. But I don't plan on growing trees anyways. I'll be doing smaller plants and quicker cycles, so smaller plants.

But to the main point of my post. From what I understand, the 600s run cooler than the 1000w. But how much cooler? Are two 600s going to run the same or hotter than a single 1000w?

Everything so far is pointing me towards two 600w HPS, both in air cooled hoods. But that's assuming they'll run at a similar temp to the 1000w.

Anyways, Id like some feedback. What would you go with. Any advice welcome.

i think they would run a little hotter , 2 bulbs, 2 ballast, double heat. but i wouldent think it would be but 10-15 percent more than one 1000watt would be . For your smaller area i would go with the 2 600 watts

I run my set up with the ballasts outside the tent so the heat from them doesnt really come into the equation. And two bulbs yes, but not twice the heat necesarily... A 600w has 40% less wattage. But is it 40% less heat? Does the heat directly correlate with the wattage?

I think it depends alot on your style of growing -------sog or large plants. Me thinks 2x600 for sog and a 1000 for trees-----both on a mover.

Well I think Im going to go the single 1000w HPS and the 1.4x1.4x2m tent.

Having just a single globe, with its square footprint, seems to be the better option for the square tent.

I plan on doing 9 plant runs (3x3). 4 weeks veg under 400w HPS in another tent, 1 week veg under 1000w in the new tent, 8-9 weeks flower under the 1000w. Potting up in Canna Terra Pro, finishing in 12litre pots. Its obviously strain dependant, but assuming its an average yielding strain, rougly how much should i expect to harvest per run, as set out above? I would be hoping for at leat 18oz...ideally 1.5lbs. How reasonable does that sound?...assuming Im at least a half way decent grower.

Ive used both 600s and 1000s, the results in yield were pretty comparable for me between 2 600s vs 1 1000. With 2 600s yeah its a little more wattage and surface area but the size and density of buds you can grow under a 1000 is just amazing.

Youll see an increase in growth rate, so if youre growing in a tent youll want to be mindful of height (flowering early if theyre stretchy, topping and/or tying them over work well). You cant let the tops get as close to the bulb with 1000 watts or else you might see some bleaching.

Your expectations sound reasonable, if everything goes well and you have a nice strain than 1.5 lbs is definitely realistic.

Yea, tis quite strain dependant. Ill be doing a 9 strain grow to begin with so I can find a strain that works for me. I'll take a cut from each of the plants, and which ever one or two strains have the best combo of yield/potency/ease if grow will be kept as mothers. With 9 diff plants in there it'll be hectic, but worth it...hopefully I'll end up with a strain that allows me to get the most out of my set up. Sounds good to me. Cant wait to get going...
