Starting a new journal to keep notes for myself here, and if y'all get something out of it then all the better. Basic info below:

-1000w vertical bare bulb Hortilux HPS
-Canna Coco
-Growing in freshly insulated 90% finished attached garage
-5x5 tent with foamboard floor insert for insulation
-Wall-anchored SCROG screen
-Nutrients used: Canna A + B leftover from last run, Rhizotonic in Veg, Koolbloom in late flower, tapwater
-Feeding 3-4x daily @ ~1.2ec. Currently hand-watered, considering a simple pump setup...any ideas are appreciated.
-Yield goal is a conservative 2lbs/32oz...this is not a mono-crop, it's a seed run, new genetics and a new setup in a new environment after all. I think if all goes well I can pretty easily beat that but I'll be happy with 2.

Genetics for this run are all from Bodhi, first time using his beans. Excited to see what sprouts for sure.

-Silver Mountain (Super Silver Haze x Green Crack x Tres Dawg [Chem D x Double Dawg])
-Goji OG (Nepali OG x Snow Lotus [Afghooey x Blockhead])
-Jabba's Stash (Snow Lotus x Bodhi's Bubba Kush)

I'm all about simple and efficient here, nothing fancy, just great genetics and a little love. I'll post some pics shortly, nothing to really see yet as I just popped the beans. Thanks for taking a look and hope not to disappoint.

Been busy at work but I got everything sans the ventilation taken care of yesterday. Beans have been soaking for 48 hours and they're more than ready to get dropped in the coco. After I leave the office today I'm going to grab some fresh insulated ducting and get to work mounting the fan and dampeners. Pics later tonight once everything is put together.

Nice man! Definitely want to get a automated watering system. You could make a top feed drip that re-circulates. Pretty simple design.

Yeah, that's the basic plan right now. Was considering blumat but I think that as often as I will be watering I will be better served by a simple large gauge tube and basic pump system like you mentioned.

No pics yet since there really isn't anything to see. As of last night I have 17 of 21 total seeds above surface, just about exactly 48 hours after the initial planting. I'm guessing that the four which have not surfaced are the seeds which did not crack even after a 72 hour soak prior to planting. If they're not viable I am definitely not going to be heartbroken, as I am already going to have more plants on my hands than I am going to have room for. Honestly, the Silver Mountain is the real reason I'm even doing this run, but since I split a few packs with a friend so we could do a combined pheno hunt on all three varieties I've widened the focus a bit. More updates when there is something to see...

Forgot to mention I've got a spare 4x4 that it looks like will end up being for moms and clones...with the 1000w, fan, etc. in addition to the 400w @ 50% for the moms and clones, I'm really pushing my luck on a 15 amp circuit. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and have my electrician put a new panel in. But then if I do that, I'm going to have a really hard time convincing myself not to drop another light in there while I'm at it. Decisions, decisions...

Convert your dryer to gas (saves money), use the 30A@240V dryer plug (saves money for a new panel) to run your whole op with a Magic Board (portable, flexible, upgradeable, SAVES MONEY).

Next? :bigjoint:

-Next; Chuck all those fuckin' silly ass light bulbs and get some COB LED action going on in there! If you're contemplating new lighting anyway, the cost difference is MUCH smaller than the additional value and performance gained.

That would be choice #1 but not feasible in my home with how things are set up. I could have him drop in a new 240v panel in the garage but that would be overkill for what I'm doing here. If I really wanted to do a serious garage banger and drop 5 or 6 lights in there I definitely would. But when I say I'm contemplating adding another light if I do drop in the panel, we're talking about maybe an extra 600w I have just for shits and giggles. The last run I did I had a few too many girls for the 4x4 600w vert, so I just randomly threw a 400w in an old tent and did a horizontal run (which I'm not great at since I've grown vertically almost my entire career) with the extras and that was some of the best dope I grew last year. Maybe the same sort of thing might happen this time if I end up with more girls than I need.

As for LED...one of my "grow buddies" went to mostly LED this year and tried to convert me as well. For my style of growing it would be pretty useless except for veg maybe (since I grow vertically and I don't know of any LEDs that can be used with that method). If anything I need to add heat to the equation instead of taking it away given the time of year, so even that wouldn't really help much. I already have HID ballasts and bulbs coming out of my ears as it is, so maybe in another few years I'll think about a switch. Until I can find another way of just about guaranteeing 2lbs per light (bare bulb vertical) with minimal effort, it's gonna be hard to convince me to change. If anything, I might be looking towards the DE HID bulbs like Gavitas or considering swapping out veg lights for CMH instead, little shit like that.

I just did that 3 months ago. Best decision I ever made was to use my dryer plug.

How is your vert setup actually setup? Did you buy a pre-built vertical framing for the plants? Do you ever notice light deficiency issues on the sides of the plants? Sooooooooo mannyyyyyyyyy questionsssssssssss :eyesmoke:

Real simple man, just the bare bulb hanging vertically right in the center of the tent, with a small fan blowing directly upwards at it. In this case, it's a 5x5 tent with a 750cfm 8" fan and scrubber with the 1000w hortilux. I attach a "screen" (which is just flexible vinyl garden fencing) to the inside walls that I then I anchor the plants to as they are growing, which allows me to fill in a vertical canopy that wraps around the entire inside of the tent...i.e. the term "donut." For maximum yield, your best bet is smaller plants and multiple levels, such as in a "stadium" setup -- in my case, I usually like to do a single level with larger pots and surround the light with 5-8 plants depending on how large the space is. I found a couple of pics from my other thread from my grow last year that illustrate this a bit better, not sure if any of that makes sense at all.

Best use of a 4x4 ever! If you mono-crop instead of trying to fit literally 3 strains and 7 different phenotypes you have never worked with, from seed, in one tent...you'll probably do better on yield than I did. I think I ended up with around 800g total between the 600w in the 4x4 and the 400w in the small tent, which was pretty lame but not the worst I've ever done. Good dope anyways, that's what matters.

Been real lazy and slow about this build, finished up getting the passive intake installed, exhaust routed to dehuey'd chamber and then a slow passive exit from there...considering routing it main living area via the laundry room to utilize some of the heat, but it's only a 1-lighter so almost certainly not worth the trouble. If I end up adding another light I might consider it more seriously. Still have a window in the garage that needs to be covered, insulated, and framed in, finishing that today...pretty much done after that. Still nothing cool enough to take photos of at this point. Ended up with all but 2 above surface, then accidentally killed one of the Jabbas when I went to pick a clingy seed shell off, so we're at 18 total for this grow...writing off the other two at this point. Can't fucking wait to get this thing on and popping, it's been far too long...one season a year isn't enough!

Most of the 400w harvest




600w harvest (two tents) not counting a couple ounces of larf not pictured. Big colas in one, smaller colas and golf ball sized or larger in the other...aforementioned larf (anything smaller than that, by my definition) gets tossed in the bubble bag because I'm a civilized human being and not some savage who likes popcorn buds.
