11/13 flower for more hormones?

There are tests on light times that go down to 6 on 18 off......The plant actually flowers very quickly....These studies are based on a paper written in 1913 in France when Julien Turneux or Turnou growing "Hemp" and Hops Under glass (in a greenhouse) found that the plants flowered "vigorously" at reduced light times down to 6 hrs of light.
I would be more inclined to work around Uncle Ben's statement.....As long as your PAR lighting requirements of the plant are reached.....lower away! Beyond that point is where you loose..

Late in bloom on Sativa's that are not finishing or going too long..... Lowering the on time to 10 hrs will initiate the plant to finish.
HPS has far more PAR lighting then MH.....It's 50% more efficient (electrically speaking) then MH and can deliver the plants PAR requirements faster. This is another basis on shorter over the whole lighting times working....

Increasing to over 12/12 is simply a waste as you are then forcing the plant to have less light saturation recovery time. You see, the plant actually reduces the light exposure it gets during the day beginning quite early, say like mid to late mourning. The plant reaches a light "saturation" point where it is beginning to change on a cellular level to protect it's self from the intensity of the light.....The light is still producing photosynthesis in the plant but, at a reduced amount that progresses on a sort of bell curve. See, plants (ours) do not require a night to grow BUT, with out one. Recovery of the plant to be able to most effectively use the light is reduced and you get reduced root growth along with hormone imbalance's that don't act as a benefit!

If you have lots of money to spend on lighting. The manipulation of the pfr lighting (730 nm band deep red spectrum) by LEDs of 730 nm will reduce the plants 2 hr shift to "night time" down to minutes. The idea behind this is that you gain back those 2 hrs of the plant shift or lighting response time to only minutes and you can use this time for extended lights on time...I tried it and am not impressed with the gain to cost ratio....

I always bloom Indica's and mutts under 11/13 as I feel the plants genetic potential is easier to reach and causes less stress....Sativa's of an 80% or better nature...get 12/12 but that begins to lower on a short progressive sched. as they get deeper into bloom......Like this -

flip to 8 weeks = 12/12
8 to 10 weeks = 11.5/12.5
10 to 12 weeks = 11/13
12 to 14 weeks = 10.5/13.5
finish at 10/14

Some Landraces get less reduction by 50%

With lower lights on time, I have not had any problems with airy or loose buds as long as I keep the Co2 at a min of 1000ppm....Right on down to 8< lighting time......

Dark for 3 days does nothing effective or helpful.

Tried about 3 days in dark for white Widdow, no noticeable difference with other plants just cut when ready from grow room. Some say maybe longer dark??

Hello guys

Im new here, and i like the debate arround time on/off. I havent grown anything yet, so i cant share my experience regarding light regime, but i might in near future. I was just wondering if someone could explain to a noobe, what happens to a plant in light and dark period of the day. If i get it right, the plants store energy during daylight, and at night the energy is used for growth of the plant?
Thanks

So around 4:20 (actually 4:10 heh) dude states that 12/12 forces "Semi-Veg" which results in Buds/Flowers, More Leaf, and Stem Stretch. So, his "Abbreviated Diminished Light Schedule" uses 10 hours on and 14 hours off. ---- So this is 10 hours of light/energy gathering. And 14 hours of growing time. I think it's worth a shot; I think because, telling the plant that winter is arriving faster than normal, it will put flowers at the priority. I think that if the plant goes through veg and has tons of energy to use throughout flower; you don't need so much light/energy gathering time. Dude also says the stretch and leaf increase will be less under his "ADLS" --- "It really concentrates on growing flowers" --- For the last two years, I've been flowering at 11/13, so I might as well go down to 10/14. Peace. (Also Dude goes down to 9/15 on the final week). --- Warning: If you're going to try this, you need to have fantastic air circulation. Flowering rooms get very humid in dark conditions.
Maybe, bec ouse so big, stores enough energy in 10hrs, and can grow 14 hrs on it?
I am clueless, just guessing.

Theres alot of debate around what exactly happens during both light on and off.
Go google search the 12:1 lighting theory by joe pietri.
There have been tons of articles weitten on the subject.

Spectrum and PAR is the most important as well as intensity of light.

LED is the way.
If you want good yields get LED.

Platinum or Kind K5 by far best LED. Best PAR and BEst spectrum. 1 G/W is easy.

Bumpon this thread and a question. The last time I grew HIDs were the best but now LEDs are what type of wattage LED is equivalent to HID wattage like a 250watt LED would be what wattage HID comparison?

I'm surprised nobody here has talked about 730nm pulses (far-red) after lights out.

There are a lot of people now testing 730nm lights pulsed on for a few minutes after the main lamps turn out to force phyotochrome state to fully inactive faster than darkness would alone. (about 2 hours faster).

Most people using 730nm pulses use a 13/11 schedule and get the benefits of an increased DLI (daily light integral) as well as the benefits of longer effective nights.

What does all this mean?

I grew western winds from sagmartha 12 12 would not put that sativa in flower
Platinum led is far from the best. Theyve been banned from 420mag. Look through the references to platinum in the led section here. You wont find many positive posts. Platinum does not remotely compare with diy lamps

Gulf i grew ww a few times. i never had trouble floeering it at 12/12 but i alwsys sllowed a good veg period. I finished them 11/13.

Ww is a nice smoke right? Have you grown kali mist?
