So, myself and a friend decided to see what we could do with very little money and a whole lot of time. We wanted to do something that could provide medical marijuana to some patients at a low cost and others at NO cost, we wanted something that could teach them how to grow if they wanted to learn as well. I had a LOT of people telling me it couldn't be done and that there are too many problems and security would have to be Fort Knox style, bla bla bla, I just couldn't wrap my brain around why a project like this couldn't work and have set out to prove the na sayers wrong!
Basic concept is this, my partner and I provide patients with one plant, we teach the patient what we have done (medium prep, water schedule, nutrient mix, when and how to feed, when to harvest, how to harvest, ect) and how to grow based on my partners grow methods, we have patients help water and some hands on things and then have a harvest party at the end. We keep it to one plant, so that the patient doesn't have to reduce plant limits at home by much if they are growing at home and we wanted it to be a PERSONAL GROW for each patient and don't wish to provide wannabe dealers. Each patient shares their plant with a good karma compassion program that provides no cost meds to deserving patients and in the end walks away with 2-4oz based on yield. Pretty basic stuff, but for a state with a system of collective distribution we figured it was as close to "in the spirit of the law" as we can come to and from what I have found, seems to be something unusual for a 'Collective' storefront to offer. Please let me remain anonymous from a stand point of the name of the collective this is offered through as I didn't post this to promote the collective and for the obvious safety of our patients, if you know of the collective, cool, please keep it to yourself though and do not post it in this thread. PLEASE
I thought I would post up some progress from it and show off a bit and take a little pride in the fact that it is up and running, in spite of the limited budget and the potential problems that people predicted that never came to pass. Here is a little info on how we did it and what we are doing, I will post pics up as we go along and hope to document a little of the trials and tribulations.
The basics of the room, 16x16 framed and sealed, 12in intake fan for fresh air controlled by timer, 12in exhaust with a 150 can filter, 11 x 1k ballast mounted on room roof with 6in vented hood, MLC16 controller, water system is 55g drum with drip system. A/C was a big issue, we have a 1.5 ton split unit that was existing and re-vented/ducted to run for only the flow room, but this was not enough to cool a room with 11Kw and we added two 28K wall units for now to save cost (they were less than $190ea brand new! and run 220 so I figured with our budget they would work!), this was our biggest hold up as we were in the middle of a heat wave and had a landlord that doesn't like fixing broken a/c units, oh well at least he doesn't mind what we do there. I think one of the most interesting parts of this room is the floor, it is a raised floor that is slanted and water proofed and covered with a vinyl flooring running to a drain for waist. Most people don't notice at first just how much the floors are slanted but once pointed out people diffidently notice it.
Grow medium is a soilless mix of peat, perilite, vermiculite, and nutrient is a basic GH 3 part with a few variants that my partner has found helpful. Enjoy! I'll add a few more pics soon.
