12/12 not perfect

Will plants still flower if the lighting period is somewhat different every day, say 12 on 13 off 13 on 11 off just small differences?

whats the shortest i could flower plants for?

how many feet should a 1000watt hps be from plants.

also do the plants defiantly need fertilizer or will they still be fine without it.

thanks

I have been told that small differences like that can drive them nuts and make them go hermie. Just what an expert grower said to me.

Well, it needs complete dark but I am thinking that moonlight is pretty normal in a plants life. So, unless there are posts otherwise, I would think that a tiny amount of light will not make a huge difference. However, they do work in the complete darkness and that is what people have found.

yeah i was thinking about the moon also. its just so hard to get complete darkness where i am its almost complete tho

You can use black plastic and make a frame for it, but again, you can look at this as an experiment too and if they do just fine then you have discovered something new. =) At the very least, new to us!!

so hermies can re produce? so wouldn't all plants in the wild be hurmies if slight light from the moon would cause this?

hermies can reproduce and if done through a couple gens of hermyism, you can create a stable fem seed. now as far as light goes, moonlight works differently on plants than sunlight, the moon provides a spectrum not utilized by the plant. therefore, its BEST for complete darkness. as soon as some light hits the fans, the photosynthesis process starts again, causing stress on the plant

you sure thats true? I'm no scientist and new to growing, but the moon doesnt really produce any light, it just reflects the sunlight so it might be really really diffused, but i'm assuming it would still be the same spectrum or whatever. Right?

You do indo or outdo scias?

im indoor. and to answer the reflection topic, the waves get changed when reflected off the moons surface. i honestly cant explain that on a molecular level, but it has to do with moonrock and all that jazz.

1) The important thing is at least 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness but why mess with the experience of many, many growers (12/12)? moonlight is reflected sunlight but that is only once a month for a few nights and lasts only a few hours. again, why risk it?

2) to get something smokable, you should flower them, at the earliest, when some of the pistils start turning amber/brown. again, why go against experience?

3) at least 24" away from the tops of the plants. if it is glass enclosed and air-cooled you can bring it closer. you can bring the light closer every day while carefully monitoring your plants for signs of burning.

4) plants should be OK for the first few weeks without any nutes at all just clean, fresh pH'ed water. After than you can feed them with a light hand.
