12 Auto's on a budget.

Hi, this is my first post

I'm about to start my first grow with a friend who knows a lil more than i do. The one thing were not sure on is how many/which type/price of the lights we need. I've already got a fairly large adjust a wing and was hoping one light would be big enough to cover the 12 auto's (ambitious i know) Are there any bulbs that would meet such a task. I've looked at a Sunmaster 1000W Dual Spectrum Grow Lamp and also at a 300w dual Spectrum CFL. Would any of these be enough.

Any help regarding lighting would be greatly appreciated.

each plant will get about two feet tall and you need a five gallon bucket to start them in.. dont transplant. so you will need 12 five gallon buckets, do you have room for that?

not all autos are going to get to 2 feet. Some may go over some may be under. In my experience it has been determined by the size of container the plant(auto or not) is in.

Furthermore, I do not see how 12 5 gallon buckets are going to fit under 1 600. Unless maybe if you have one of those 3 x 3 foot hoods.

One more thing. If space is not an issue than I would not go with auto's. You can achieve the same results with photoperiod strains. Just veg a week or 2 then flower :-) again keeping in mind on the container size.

I am not sure why you would put autos in a 5 gallon bucket in the first place.

Suppose i didn't answer your question though. Wheither or not you can fit 12 small plants under 1 light will depend on:

Size of container
Strain of plant
Footprint of hood.<--- very important. Although I guess if you are using a 1000 watt you gotta keep em pretty far away.

I'd go with 2 600's before I went with 1 1000.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

My growing space is pretty much a corridor, 1m wide and 2-3 m long. The reason i'm doing auto's is the time frame and as it's my first grow i thought these might be a little easier to handle. Would it be possible to do 2 rows of 6, 3 gallon pots under one light ?
one other thing, when you say 600, which type of light are you referring to and can i get it in dual spectrum to save the hassle of switching ligts.
Thanks for quick responses, as you can tell i'm as new as they come so you may have to bare with me at times !!

2.5 gallon pots seem to work well for auto's . I see some grow in smaller pots then that

He's referring to a 600w HPS. As HPS can be used for veg and flower. These lights do give off quite a bit of heat so you will want very good ventilation.

I went with lowryder #2 for my 1st grow, so i kinda get how the auto's look easier, but in my experience, you can take any(well almost) strain and get bud quick. And there ain't nothing that says you gotta wait 8(avg time) weeks either. I've pulled dank at 5 and 6. Of course most people on here would not agree with it.

Good space to grow in.I'd go with 2 or 3 600's run long ways along the corridor. Don't know much about dual spectrum. but I used 1 HPS and one MH last grow. One of the ices was up under the MH its whole life and it turned out equally as good as the other ice's under the HPS. I'm thinking about going only MH for flowering too.

mine is in a 3 litre pot, currently about 60cm tall which is the perfect height for my space

any estimates on yield for the 12 ? plan on doing 18/6 in 3 gallon pots with lowlife ak47 and fox farm ocean forest and the light mentioned above. I know it's not the easiest question to answer because of all the different factors but was just wondering if anyone had any rough numbers ?

Or better yet, any suggestions for a big yielder...

Not sure if anyone will know this as most ppl don't seem to no too much about dual spectrums but I'm guessing i wouldn't need to change anything light-wise once i've set it on a 18/6 cycle ?

Thanks

Alright if you are going to use one light...you would want to do 3 rows of 4. If you do 2 rows of 6...the plants on the end wont get enough light. 1000W is usually good for a 5' by 5' footprint.

I must admit i'm getting tempted by the thought of doing a normal strain. Tangerine dream is my favourite bud of all time and i would love to grow that. It says they have a flowering time of 70 days. How long would i have to veg them before i could start flowering. any suggestions on strains I could use that would have a similar time period to auto's. Won't cropping normal stains early result in a loss in potency ?
