12' x 8' room, 600w Platinum LED, First Journal!

Well folks here is my first recorded grow journal. I've only ever grown in small spaces like a mini fridge, small cabinet and a tall(ish) cabinet so this is quite the upgrade for me. I have two beans germinating directly in the soil at the moment. Strain is unknown but I'm pretty sure its a pair of GDP seeds I received from a good friend.

Setup:
12' x 8' sealed room.
Organic soil mix by the local grow shop where I live.
600w Platinum LED grow lamp.
4" inline fan mounted in the ceiling outside the room for exhaust. 400 cfm I believe.
2 small wall mounted fans.
Thermometer/humidity gauge.

I'll be vegging and flowering in this room under this light to start. After I get this room rolling I also I have a 4' x 8' tent with a 100w T5 to keep outside the room and dedicated to vegging.

I built the room using 2x2's and fiber board for the walls, fiber board on the ceiling and fitted my own door using an old grow tent as scrap Mylar. I even ended up with a viewing window on the door by pure chance! Used two sided sticky Velcro strips to seal the door closed. Sealed the room using expanding foam and white silicone paste.

I'll keep this updated as I progress and pictures are on the way!

Well here are the two sprouts that popped on 9/16 which appear to be different strains. Not sure on what they are. About to give them a watering but before I did I wanted to ask about feeding. Should I do a light feeding now at day 6 or continue with just water until dry and then feed during the next watering? I've been watering them lightly once a day besides the last watering which was a little heavier and I haven't watered in two days at the moment.

Temps are a steady 72 degrees F at around 52% humidity.

Also, the rust looking spot. Any ideas?

I dont usually feed my plants that young and not sure if you need too as they look healthy and happy (i wouldn't currently worry about that spot unless you notice it on new growth) maybe just wait and do it next time

Yeah I just realized that is pretty early to start feeding so I'm going to hold off on that. I went ahead and ph'd some water to about 6.7. I only have the test vial at the moment and the lowest reading it gives is 6.8. All I do is give my tap water a little bit of Ph down and test it until I get the shade just slightly lighter than the 6.8 reading which should make it about 6.6-6.7 in my mind. But yeah...with that said I'm going to just water for now. Any and all replies and advice is welcome however!

Here's some more photos from the room today. Incredible day to day growth rate with these LEDs as opposed to CFLs (as if I were expecting different results). First time I've never had a stretching problem. I'm not used to having such young plants that at day 7 already are wider than they are tall!

You must have read my mind. I was just in the room and thinking to myself that I should've grabbed my sunglasses! I'm only starting with the two at the moment as I get used to growing under this light. I'm used to only growing one plant at a time under CFLs so this is a whole new ballgame to me. As I get rolling I'll setup my veg tent and T5 separate from this room to get me up to my limit.

My plan is to max this flower room out with another 2, maybe 3 sets of LED lamps similar to the one I have but I wanted to wait until after harvest to decide if I want to stick with a 600w or choose one that is either higher or lower in intensity. Primarily going for quality over quantity but I wouldn't mind pulling some nice weight under some LEDs.

More photos rolling through day number twelve. They're really starting to put off a nice smell already =]

Before I had the light about 14-16 inches away. Now its probably closer to 18 inches or so. Seems to be a pretty good range so far for the distance.

Transplanting question. Based on my growth rate how much longer should I push it in these pots? My plan is to transplant into the 5 gallon (?) circular plastic pots that these are currently sitting on. I've read that once the plants have a steady root base/system going it should be safe to transplant. Shouldn't be too much longer now I'd assume?

man they are some fat steams! are there roots coming out of the bottom of the pot yet? if not still wait a bit until you can see them coming out just so then you know for sure they have pretty much rooted the whole pot.Do you know of a method to re pot them? I usually wet the dirt then put your hand over the dirt with the steam of the plant going between your index and middle finger and then slowly (with your hand still there) turn the pot upside down and slowly squeeze the pot in multiple places to free the dirt and it should pop out like a popsicle and then slowly put that into the new pot(with dirt already in there and a hole the size of the small pot dug out). hope this helps

The methods of transplanting I've done the studying up on. It was more of a timing question I suppose. That makes sense though, thank you. And yeah they've reached the bottom but I'll give it a little more time. Appreciate the advice though! For real.

I never had to transplant in my previous grows. Always learning something new!

Day 16 with some late night photos. Really nice growth so far. Very impressed with the node spacing. I get more and more excited for these two plants with each passing day! Still giving it just a little more time before I transplant to the bigger pots.

Transplanting =more room for roots=more quantity.

Just finished transplanting. Pretty successful for my first time. No mess and didn't drop them lol. There was definitely a nice sized root mass in both of the pots. I actually think I may have pushed it a little too long? Noticing a little droopage as you can probably tell in the photos. I didn't have my phone with me so I couldn't snap a photo of the roots and I didn't want to leave them exposed for any longer than I had to. Still pretty confident these (hopefully) ladies will turn around and look much better in a day or so.

I waited a couple days after watering before I transplanted so I did give it a watering after I was finished to make sure the soil was moist. Then I added a little more soil to the top to even it out and then sprinkled just a little more water on top and called it good. Pretty adequate?

Going a little picture crazy here but that's alright because they tell the story better than I ever could. Monday, day number 19! Looking nice and perky after the transplant. Seems that I've gained a tiny friend though! Not sure if you can see it but in the most close up photo of the base of the stem there's a tiny little spider that has cast a web underneath and made home. Being a predator I should be able to live him there with no hassles right? I've had absolutely no issues with pests thus far.

Also popping another bean in the veg tent of some Lemon Haze and a little shot of my stash jar with some frosty ass Nightmare Cookie nugs.

Life is good =]

What a long day! Glad to finally sit down for an update. Spent most of the day trimming some monster outdoor Sharksbreath and actually just finished making some cannabutter out of some of the trimmings. Can't wait to try that stuff out...but enough of that.

Here are the kids. The smell coming off of these is pretty unique so far. To be honest they are starting to smell like straight up dog shit! Haha, its really hard to describe but the only thing I can compare it too is that smell of right after stepping in a fresh pile of dog shit on accident and you get the fresh smell in your nose...anyway, yeah that's about the best description I can give, lmao! Very pungent and shitty smelling but in a good way. I can't wait to see how they smell in flower!

I'm also curious if anyone knows why I'm getting the curling on just one leaf on both of the plants. The middle blade curls the most and its been doing it slightly for a bit now but its really concerning to me. The plants look and smell amazing, temps at a steady 72F and humidity is around 53 percent. I lowered the plants from the light about 6 inches or so to promote a little more stretch so hopefully that, along with moving my fan a little farther away, will help at all if the curling really is an issue. I did a little bit of research on it and I'm pretty sure too much light and too much humidity are the main culprits. Which is kinda tough for me with these LEDs since I'm able to get them so close without burning, but my guess is too much intensity. Still trying to find that sweet spot. I'll just have to keep my eye on the new growth and hope it goes away. Opinions gladly welcomed.

Another thing, which I'm probably being way too OCD about, but on some of the newer growth the tips have just barely turned brown. Probably not even noticeable in the photos but I tried to show it. Its not many at all, just a few here and there. Not too concerned. I'm thinking I may have either gone a little heavy on the first feeding or possibly under watered a tad since I've been trying to make it an effort to not make the mistake of over watering...go figure. Pretty sure it is not nute burn however since I went about 1/2 strength SensiGrow two part A & B. Again, any opinions happily welcomed!

Oh and my seed sprouted today too! Mark that day 1 for the new mystery strain.

Think that's about it. Time to roll one and pass out.
Peace!:blsmoke:
