15 Lbs of trim, how to BHO properly.. tastes green. where to get large tube?

Open blasting is only good for small amounts. Get a closed loop system if you plan on doing this kind of volume again. It will pay for itself quickly in saved man-hours. You can also dry sift with a automated tumbler then use pentane or hexane as your solvent for the keif. A gallon of HPLC grade will cost about $120 and you can reclaim it with a simple distillation set-up.
I agree with Twitch on the color. Try looking at the heads under magnification.

will let it freeze for 2 weeks in the freezer and I will let it tumble and try to get several different grades.

1 minute tumble.

5 minute tumble

10 minute

then throw away sorta thing.

digging through a 1lb bag ive been finding lots of little "kief bombs" that ive pulled out and saved... this is just from 2 minute of shaking through quarter of a 1 lb bag. got 12 left:




scooped 1oz into the kief box and shook for 20 seconds, pulled out .50. shook for 20 more seconds, pulled out .50 of the same grade kief. so im getting about 1 gram of mid grade kief per oz. I have about 190 (12x16) ozs so its safe to say ill get about 200 grams of kief (almost half lb. wow) which will hopefully make nearly 75-100 grams of nice BHO and not take more than a dozen cans.

ill freeze the kief, then try winterizing some of it too.

hopefully its golden and tasty!

any suggestions/tips?

should I use 150 or 180 micron screen?

With just a big tube? A lot of the ppl who blast large amounts have the pressure release valve on it to prevent blowback and butane waste when switching cans. Still tho packing a couple p's in a pipe must be quite a bitch. Do you run into pressure problems often?

oh god no I have a bunch of QP tubes and just stuff coffee filters in first before you pack the tube no shit blows out, and no never ran into problem

thoughts on my pics guys?? I pack rock hard and never run into pressure problems.

only time ive had pressure problems is when using 3+ unbleached coffee filters.

i always use 3 or more filters, i also do not pack as tight as i once did, because i grind all my nug in a coffee grinder till it is powder

I grind nug too till its powder, but this is super leafy and I dont think should have been powderized... but ive gotta work with what ive got.

If you grind it up you are going to allow more microscopic fines to make it through, green or not.

Don't grind as much and don't pack as tight. Looser pack should help prevent forcing crap out the other end as well. You want the tane to flow through, not push product out the end.

ive never ever had weed chunks in my oil, I dont ever have problems with that.

I didnt grind it, its pre ground... im trying to find a way around it.

Try packing all the finer stuff in the top or middle of the tube.. keep it away from the end that it's coming out of.. that way it'll get (hopefully) caught up more and not come out freely into your dish.. i've had that issue before and it seemed to help. Haven't made oil in a long ass time but that's what I do remember helping.

Well if it tastes green and brown.. then clearly you are. It's not the resin that tastes like plant.. it's plant.

I'm talking microscopic fines, not large visible chunks to the eye. If it's been ground up and powderized, that's likely what's happening.

I run ground up bud just as fine or finer and it doesnt taste green?

I shook 12 ozs of trim in a box and recovered 12 grams of kief.

I mised it with 12 grams of chopped bud and ran 1 can through it.

it yielded 5 grams of a dark brown, almost greenish oil. fairly tasty compared to oil made with just trim, but still nothing spectacular compared to what the bags smell like.

still havnt tried/had time to freeze anything yet.

freezing is a night and day difference.

and it kinda sucks. I figured if I just load it 3/4 full with crumbled material, and shake it like a madman by hand, its way faster and more efficient.

took 2 hours, but I removed the crystal/kief off the higher grade 3 lbs of trim that I had. still got 10-13 lbs of med grade trim that id like to shake and remove the kief, freeze it, and make BHO from that.

I got 70 grams of kief from this run, pretty much 3 ozs. I figure ill mix it with 2 oz of bud for a total of about 125 gram run. maybe 4 or 5 cans of butane. and I am hoping for 30-40 gram return. last time I did this it was dark, taste was 6/10, and it was shatter, absolutely no bend, just snaps.

will try whole process again with the lower grade material when I have time.
