150 vS 250 HPS

Alright all.. Here it is... i've decided to switch from cfls to HPS. But im debating between the two. My grow box is like 4 feet high. 2 1/2-3 feet wide and like 2 feet thick. I have 1 or two plants going. And i can keep cfls in there as well. But right now in my power bill i notice no difference with the cfls. Will i notice a difference with the hps ? If so 150 or 250?

Im more or less looking for peoples inputs on both. And if temps and money may be an issue just keep that in mind.

i use a 150 hps in a growtent thats 2x2x4'3" feet with 4 cfl's for side light and its working pretty well for me. ive got three plants in there right now, two aurora indica from seed and a K.O. Kush clone, all 3 are around a foot tall and there 2 weeks into flower.

the only problem is the 150 watt doesnt penetrate the canopy to well so you cant veg them to tell because the lower parts of the plant will not get enough light. i usually veg untill there about 9 inches tall

okay so i should go for a 250 then prob ? I would like my plants to get maybe 2-3 feet tall by the time i harvest.

I have a 250 watt in a 4.5 feet tall box. It is in a 6 inch air cooled reflector attached to a 306 CFM inline fan. The 250 watters put out some heat so if you want to get one I suggest you use a cool tube and a strong inline fan

I would rather not have a cooltube. Im trying to keep this simple and pretty small... Do you think i should just snag a 150 Watt and use a few cfls too? Or if i was gonna just get a 150Watt i might as well just keep using cfls till i wanna go 250? Or does the 150 Make a pretty big difference comepared to just cfls

right now i have a 175 mh for veg and my plants are already taller than 8". the heat put off with it is easily taken care of with regular box fans assuming you are able to keep your grow area open. i'm sure the same would be said for the 150 hps, which is what i'm getting once these are ready for flower. places like htgsupply.com have small inline fans for around 20 bucks but they only work for small grows. the cfl's with the 150 should put your total output up around the 250 hps with alot less heat but still may need some sort of inline fan.

Okay right on. So heat will not be a Uber issue but does the 150 increase yeild more then just cfls would? Or should i just save up for a 250 and cooltube?

Hey man, I've got a 150 hps....Its alright, but doesn't really have coverage... You can really only grow one plant at a time...My last widow grow, i got 2 1/2ozs from it, but the trich production was low, and the quality wasn't there...I mean it was, but not like you see with 400 - 1000w lights...I've got a 400w hps enclosed ballast on its way! I can't wait...I'm just nervous about cooling options...Good luck man! And it raise the electric bill only 5-10 bucks a month! hope this helps...

Thank you man. That really Helped actually. That is exactly what i wanted. + rep dudes. Im not going for a big grow just a small one for personal. Did u also us cfls dude? and how tall did it get? Can i see ur setup?

A 150 watt will be far more productive if you use reflective material on the walls; white paint, or mylar is the way to go. 150 watt HPS for the win.

10-4. I got white paint all around it dude :P So now im stuck trying to find a canadian store that will sell a 150 hps? Any ideas?

Hey that's odd that I came across this thread cause I'm in the same exact position I was unsatisfied with the quality buds from cfls but I came across this dual balast and got a deal on it.you should check one of these out because they can hold a mh and hps. But for anyone with hps exp if I was to have a 250 mh and 100 hps for vegging and then a 250 and 100 hps for flower could I grow 5 nice plants with a steady yield? I would alsohave some extra cfl for veg and for bloom underneath the canopy

Ebay is where I got my Sun Systems 150 watt HPS. go to ebay, search 150 watt hps and look for HTG supply. I paid 84 dollars for mine after shipping. Its works well for my grow box I am building. check my signature

Oh btw Idkk how you feel about it or if you have it in Canada but a buddy of mine bought a nice set of cfl's on craigslist believe it or not and they actually were solid to use too who knows mahbe you could ind an hps if there's no other options

I cant do that becuase they dont ship to canada lol..

And for the CL option i check all NB and no hps on there. I also check Kijiji

according to statistics, Canada has more weed smokers than anywhere else in the world LOL. All those weed smokers are growing their shit with something they bought somewhere in Canada... Unless you live in Sasquatch territory, there has to be a grow shop somewhere you can buy from.

UPDATE: problem solved... This is a Canadian grow shop that ships all over Canada. They even ship to Sasquatch territory. Now If you make me do anymore work, I will needs some bud in exchange.
