150w econolight question

I here people say that they're ordering extra lights, are the lights people are ordering listed as the optional items?

6 bucks seems cheap for a 150w hps light

Its 20 bucks and yes that is cheap! i ordered last thursday and got mine the following monday heres the web page its listed under VAPOR TIGHTS.

I was thinking about ordering that light as well..I already have 2 Floralux 150's..Would a reflector hook up to that light?

i just am scared of getting a tall shitty plant in veg with hps, rather then cfl, but itl grow faster with hps hummm

They will sell you a reflector for that light if you want to spend $20

You should be able to DIY reflector on any light.

wow for 20 bux thats pretty hard to pass up :X How much is shipping? It can't be that cheap seeing it weighs 8 pounds.

Anyone see the bulbs color temperature? What bulb type does this accept? I tried clicking the more info link but it crashes FF :/

2100K & S55 bulb/ballast. its 15000lum peak 11250avg, still for that price its not bad.

I checked that light out a few days ago. Read the manual, but still not sure how to install... I'm far from an electrician. I know it comes with a ballast, but is there any way to just plug it in to a regular outlet?? Or rig it up to do so??

Here's some pics of the my new econolight HPS system with the light turned off. What I did was disassemble the socket, should be two screws around the outside of the light. Then you can pull it off and you have two wires, white and black, that go from the ballast (which shouldnt be taken apart) to the piece you unscrewed, cut those in half and then I basically used an extension cord with the ends cut off, I tied the wires together with caps/tape, and basically extended the socket portion as to make a remote ballast (plus its waaaay lighter and easier to install), To plug it into the wall, I then used a heavy dute 3 prong extension cord, cut the female end off, there will be 3 wires, green white and black, match white and black together, and the ground goes with the green, again tye all of them with caps and tape, and wallah your done and you can mount however with a remote ballast, I attached a few pics plus there are more in my journal.

just a note to anyone ordering this light

when you wire it up there is a no green wire

its actually just a copper wire attached to a screw on the inside of the case

that screw is painted green so you know its ground

but yeah thats about it

that light seems like it would get hotter than a regular grow light.. right? the ballast is built in to the fixture itself.

You are worrying about stuff that doesn't really matter. If you are just trying to convince yourself not to buy it then don't. No point sitting here nitpicking a $20 light that does what most people need for their first couple grows. It's cheap and it works. What else do you want ?

Most HID fixtures have the ballast built in, that is normal.

If you are concerned then you can take it apart and make the ballast remote, we even talked about it in a couple threads. You can even put it in a cute metal box to make it look cool. Add a fan to the metal box and everyone will think you spent a fortune.

This pretty much seems to be the jack of all trades light fixture.

Yes there are better lights out there and if that is what you want go and get it.

It just sounds like you won't be happy with it, the only reason you are looking into it is because of the price, so I suggest you go and get the HIDHUT 400 watt HPS for $139, it comes with a reflector and remote digital ballast, that is probably what you would be happier with.

It took me $60, 30min, and some ingenuity and I put my light together and it works great, remote ballast and all, if you are not someone who likes to get high, take stuff apart, and make it into something better, then but a light already put together.

No, it comes in a box with the exposed wires, if you want the light to plug in you have to buy a 3 prong extension cord, cut the female end off, and tie and cap the matching wires together. If you want a remote ballast read above.

Unless a light comes with an actual wall plug, it will always have 2 exposed wires & some copper wire for ground. You dont NEED it but you should use it when able.

Anyone afraid of buying this because it requires you to do some wiring shouldn't be put off. It's very simple to do (assuming you dont convert it to remote ballast) and will only cost you ~$2 (@ your local home depot, check the lighting section it's actually an extension cable) for the cable to plug it in the wall plus some wire caps.

on a side note, 12 shipping was for one or two units? I'm looking to get two.

The light was $32, the supplies for the remote ballast and reflector were less than $30. It costs about $2.00 to make a remote ballast using this light. All you needs is an extension cord and some wire caps to make it remote. The section where the light actually screws in comes undone with 2 screws, from there you just cut the wires and attach the extension cord.
