I am going to grow 2 autoflowers in a small grow box. I was wanting to know what light would be better. A 150w hps light or 4 of these 55w cfls? I can get the hps light for 64 bucks or I can buy the cfls for 12 bucks each. So what light would be better for 2 autoflowers? What would be more efficient? And better yield? would like some comments please. [h=3][/h]

HPS all day long! I've grown with a 150 and don't think CFL can come close, at least not 4.

well the cfls are 55w each or actual watts. so 4 would be 220 watts right? That would be more than the 150w hps? But you are saying the 150w hps would be be better.

HPS has better light penetration, if your setup can handle the heat it generates then I would go with the HPS.

just don't grow with lazer beams, u have a new lighting thread every couple days

id say the cfls would be better for 2 plants as u can position them around the plant for optimum coverage and would make less heat

I was thinking with the 4 cfls. I could hang them even above the 2 plants or have 2 cfls above each plant. Which light would be better for the money for 2 autoflowers.

u could always start your grow with the cfls then add the hps down the road when u have more money, thatd be the best value for the money in my opinion

Go for the hps. Check out my mini cab grow, i use one. Theyre way better than cfls and throw off the same amount of heat as that many of those cfls. I did a similar grow with 5 of those 42 or 45 watt cfls and it got sweltering in there. Compared to my minicab that has a built in air cooled hood. Even thought its hps its easier for me at least to pull the excess heat off that.

its a floralux from htg supply.

And then you wont have to replace the $50s worth of bulbs after every other harvest. we ran our 5 bulb set up for about 4 months and the bulbs lost a good portion of light from being on so long and where they connected to the base started to melt on more than 1 bulb.

cfls are good if you have the money to replace them regularly. for growing at least. Throw em in a desk lamp and youll never tell the difference.

Go with the HPS Lamp... I've used both, and while the Compact fluros are good, the HPS delivers more lumens per watt and has the correct spectrum for entire life cycle. Here are my girls under a 250w HPS, 2 weeks into flowering.

I have a 2 gallon one under my 150w. The bigger the better though. But i wouldnt go over 5 unless its a long flowering auto flower.

2 2 gallon pots should work.
