150w hps question......ultra noob needs help!

so i found a 150w hps at my local home depot and had two questions....

will i need any type of ballast or what not to run this or can i just screw it into a light socket ? and

will this light be enuf for 2-3 plants thru flowering?

All hps light need a ballast, you could do 2-3 plants but they would have to be smaller or you will sacrifice quantity and quality,,,,you could use it to do a SCROG in a small area. how big is your room?

well its an extreme stealth grow... so i got 20"x18"x height of 32" but its my first grow indoors so a half oz would make me a happy camper cuz my outdoor plants right now are getting jizzed on by mother nature and they dont look like their gonna make it, but thats life.....

a scrog is a screen of green, basically you let the colas come up through the screen and trim the lower areas of the plant below bare, this way only the bud and canopy get the light, you get denser, higher quality buds, great for smaller plant and you may be able to get a bit more outa them if you LST first (Low Stress Training) this is where you tie the plant to the side so all the nodes start growing up...if you want I can find ya some pics

Home depot does have 70 watt security lights for around $80 that are hps and will do the job for ya, they come with a built in ballast...so just plug and play!!

No man the 150's are just replacement bulbs,

I'm runnin CFL in my fridge right now, their great for vegging, but to be honest not that great for flowering, that amount of money you would have to spend to get sufficient bulbs, you could just get a 150 watt HPS grow light with build in ballast, you should be able to score one of those for around $150, plus the buds will be weaker and smaller with CFL's....... you could also just get two of the security lights, the your would have some positioning options also, their not too big, and if they are too big for your grow spot, I;m sure you could gut em and magyver something.

Don't forget about how much heat these lights will emit, be sure to have good ventilation, also once it starts buddin its gunna smell like crazy indoors so youll have to deal with that or do a enclosed system like me. If you want yeild, I would both LST first then SCROG and make sure you have a HPS,

what lights are you runnin now, what kinda ventalation do you have, whats your room temp?

i should have clarified this but i am on a extreme low budget grow

ive spent 0$ so far and already have my grow box, fans, timer, power for fans and carbon filter(homemade)
i searched my house for all the parts only thing i couldnt find was lighting and i cant spend more than 50$ on lighting(well i did find a total of 25w of cfl but that aint worth shit)

so yep this is extreme low budget

as for yeild difference, its really had to say as there are so many factory, strain, nutes, your watering sched, temp, you get the point, the more love you give em the more love they'll give you, words to live by for growin!

k let me think a sec......you against a little smash and grab? not a store or anything but a streetlight would work, they are HPS. you may be able to find old ones that the city took down if you do some research......uh

lighting is always the most expensive, you would need at least 4 x43 watt CFL's for your plants and the run around 12 - 18 each, also you would need 8, four 2700 and four 6500.

but where there is a will there is a way! Let me see what I can come up with for ya, totally understand the budget thing, thats why I did a fridge, check it out while I do some research for ya, may spark some ideas, its in my sig

lolz i live in reallllllllyyyy rich community so our street lights are surrounded by a steel cage with elaborate class panels , and plus i dont feel like climbing up a 15ft pole to break my ass when i fall.

so a 105w cfl wouldnt cut it then?

Like a 105 watt CLF or 105 output cfl, there is a difference.....and naw don't climb one, call your local city works dept and ask them what they do with their old lights, you run a production company and you need some back lighting for a photo shoot and want the orange hue of the lights, ya know....you may get em for free or you may have to pay a small amount but realistically to the city their junk, so look for areas that are being fixed up, roads are widening anything where the lights are being removed, then you could either scoop one that is already taken down if you wanna go that route or you could ask the foreman where their getting trashed, Just an idea, but there are some good deals out there for lights like the links I gave ya that are in your budged, the ballast think you'll wanna keep outa the box as it gives off a bit of heat and just find a case for it , preferably something metal with ventilation, there are always tons of old computers being thrown away with perfectly good fans in em so no cost there!

ya i stripped 4 fans off my old comps and i got temps at like 60-65 degrees with a 25w cfl(i know thats absolutely no heat from a cfl but still)

and i was taking about a legit 105w cfl not a 105w equivalent

I mean ya dude that will get ya through veggin if you through a couple 25's in at the sides, do you have reflective material in your box?

you'll see the heat go up a bit with the 100 but you should be fine if it gets to high just add another fan
