which is better for a closet grow? 150w HPS or 150w worth of cfls? lets say... 2 42w, 2 26w, and 1 30w... are any better for vegging and other for flowering? also... heat is a problem for my closet... i had the cfls and fan in there at one period... and they all drooped on daytime... heat from them was about ...85-90 in the room... i know thats 2 much, but i even left it at a crack and had a small fan blowing on them.... hps will be worst problem or no? also i heard if you use the active yeast method for CO2... plants can b in around 85 degrees temp... that true? any input would be good! i got 3 plants vegged for bout 4-5weeks and started 12/12 on monday..... they are getting to big for the cabinet i put them in

I'd think maybe the cfls would give you more coverage options w/only 150W. Could be wrong, but makes sense to me. Yeah, hps'll put off more heat.

True ive been told the same things about the t5 and they are the way to go with small spaces, but what about flowering you wouldn't want to waste all that time and energy for buds that aren't that full but i could be wrong some one that has grown with t5 should put some pics up

2 pics of Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough, Paradise Seeds Dutch Dragon and a pic of my current grow DP White Widow all grown from germination through harvest under two New Wave 2-ft. mixed spectrum four bulb T5's. 192 watts with around 16,000 lumens output. My grow area is 2.5 ft. x 2 ft. and 7.5 ft. tall.

Hope this helps you decide. I like them very much.

Wait a second... 96w but 16k lumens? Overdriven or no? If that's true I've been spreading some misinformation repeatedly and nobody's called me on it yet?
(150w hps 15klumens being more efficient than the flouro's.)

Damn...I mean damn...

i currenty use 6 26w cfls = 156watts but im gonna get a 150 hps, the cfls DO put out alotta heat actually in my smaller space, but im confident i can control the heat by the temps outside the box being 30 degrees..lol

but my reason is

15,000 lumes in the 1 hps bulb vs what 1900 per cfl? my lower growth could use that extra light penatration . i still pulled 2.2 O's off 2 plants 24" tall using cfls and MG, it can only get better

prevailing wisdom around here says hps will give denser buds.. there is a guy on here named watercooled that just finished his dwc (i think it was dwc) hydro grow under a 150hps, ScRog'd it, one plant, final weight was 3.5 ounces.

but there are also people like mr bomb diggity that get fantastic results with their cfl's, probably due to good techniques and knowing their strains.
so, as someone famous once said..
'its in the way that you use it'

I decided to go with the HPS, it supposedly will be leaps and bounds better come flowering time, but ideally you should get both if you can afford it.

but you can check out my grow with the HPS if helps you decide, I'm only a week and half in though. and I just popped my growing cherry.

I cant tell you right now. If you've read this forum, you know HID are best. The only advice I can give you:

You get out of your grow, the money you put into it. Get on craigslist and buy a 400watt HID. I have one, no air cooled, in a 4x4 tent, w/ 1 fan blowing on it, about a foot away from my plants, and it is 77 degrees and 60% humidity.
