17 Days old...should I trash it?

Hey all,

The little one below is 17 days old, very light green and just not growing. I had fungus gnats or fruit flies and did the sand trick on Thursday of last week (07-30) and it really hasn't improved, although I have not seen another bug since then. PH was a bit high when I flushed her on thursday (right around 7) but got it down to 6.6 in the runoff. Temps in the small cab are fine. no nutes fed to her...using shitty Hyponix soil. I have a bag of Fox Farms...should I try a transplant or just start over with another one?

Thanks for looking and any feedback greatly appreciated.

could you give any more information on how you are growing?
growing in soil, she's in a small plastic container. as I said, I had used Hyponix soil (I didn't have Fox Farms at the time) and I know the Hyponix soil had either gnats or fruit flies, thus the top layer of sand. I've never fed her nutes, I water only when she's dry. she's under about 69 watts of CFL in a small cabinet (see pic below) where temps are max 84 and low of 74, humidity right around 35-40%. she's about 1-2 inches from the lights. i have another plant in the same space that's out grown her and that plant is half her age. this is just plain old bagseed...so it could be bad genetics.

i hope that helps...

hey sogbunn...thanks for the imput...i got beans coming, but they wound up on the wrong side of the continent (hopefully getting fixed as I type)...I do have two other plants going, and doing better than this little one. They are half the age of this one and look better than it. This one is an unknown bagseed strain...it was from decent mids...but not certain of strain. All my grows have been with unknown shit...cant wait to get some good genetics.

EDIT: oh, and I am certainly not expecting answers, but just some input, like yours. Appreciate it! peace:leaf:

It cant hurt to leave the plant. It's not like it's taking up too much space. I've had plants that looked like shit and they were the ones that survived.

Well if your looking for input-- I have the exact same issue. I had a found a seed in some past stuff-- planted it in a bunch of peat moss, soil, perlite. The peat moss of course threw off the Ph of the soil, and my sprout is like almost 2 wks old and its very under developed. However I transplanted her yesterday into plain soil, and waiting to see if she rebounds. This is just a practise run for myself -- I'm ordering better quality too- hopefully by then I have a good system down.

Good luck--

thanks guys...you're prolly right...she's not taking up much space...and if i transplant her to the FF soil, she may just rebound. in my first grow, the runt of the litter turned out to be the best smoke...so i should remember the past more often...but i am a stoner, so...

All of those plants look very stretched. It wouldn't hurt to get those lights closer. Other than that the genetics are what they are. I have had plants before that started out retarded and really came on all of the sudden. Let it simmer a while longer and see if it takes off. At 21 days I introduce 1/4 strength nutrients. That may be your super charger for those genetics. Might not have had much in the way of food stored in the seed. I have seen that many times. Good luck with your grow.

Theres not too much wrong with that seedling for 17 days! Don't abandon it. Its hard to see from those pics but I'd say its just at the pont of take off :-) You always get that initial period when little seems to be happening.

Pot it up a size now, be very gentle and take care to let it slide out into your hand so the rootball remains intact. Take your time over this...use that cup to make the new hole for it then remove it and let it slip into the fresh soil.

If the roots/soil feel wet just let them grow into the fresh soil.

I dont like that sand layer although I understand why you did it. I personally used a layer of clay pebbles when I had a gnat issue, easier to work with, but a pest strip will have you clear of them within a couple of days :-)

Watch your watering, they need very little at that stage.

Aside from that I bet she will go :-) Give it a chance and watch.

Hope this helps.

*edit* Take a quick look at this, my series of pics showing days 11 to 44 on a 12/12 from seed grow.... you're not that far behind!!

dont trash it, stick with it, you should only get rid of it if it is dead, not dying.

I swear I resurected a seedling once, didnt do ANYTHING for a whole month. but it is growing normally as of about 2 weeks ago.

a ph of 7 is ok, so don't flush unless you have too.

Persistence, and not over-caring is key.

Good Luck

hey thanks CV...yeah, I think I'll stick with her for now...nothing to lose if i do that...much to lose if I trash her...great idea about sizing the transplant. i transed one of my other plants to the FF soil and she suffered no shock at all, if fact she started to take off after the trans...peace and thx for the help!

Just thought I'd update this thread with new pics of the plant in trouble...she seems to be making a strong comeback...see pics below...i transplanted her to Fox Farms soil and switched to an 18/6 light schedule...I think she's liking it!!! she still looks a little like a Dr Seuss plant from the side, but from the top she looks great!
