Hortilux is a brand that specializes in grow hps bulbs. They make great bulbs with a wide color spectrum. Expensive but worth it. Wish they made 150W bulbs :cry:

Regardless, what he said is right. MV does give off a very blue/purple light. It wont be of any use to you.

As I said before, either get more CFL's (300-350W for each spectrum: 2700 AND 6500) or get a HPS.

For 6 plants? No where near enough. Is that ACTUAL wattage or Equiv?

Well, he's aiming for ~70 bux. A 400W Horti is well over 70 already.

Oh and T@ll, I saw the thread you were talkin about. From what I saw you were asking if you could daisy chain a few power strips to use with a HPS.

Don't daisy chain them. You could add as any as you wanted and it wont raise the amount of load it can handle. If your looking for a way to elongate the power cable, just get an extension cable? Different strips are rated differently. If your going to use a single strip as your global power point, then get one rated 15A @ 120V (or 115, same thing).

yes sir i know i need differnet color specturms i know that

its about 45-50usd for my box tub pot perlit soil and i few basic nutes

i sont want to go over 80 for everything at the moment i dont have much right now for this SHITY AS ECON and non legalization are a few major factors

i have 2 surges rated fuckin 330v and 1 basic 120v so are you saying i can use the sure if they hold higher volts

if you could clarify my mind it would be great!!

Read the post Genius, keyword USED you can pick up a used 400 for about 70 bucks, i get complete 1000w HPS's with hortilux's used all the time for under $150...

I need to know the Amperage!

Check the underside, it will have a bunch of text molded into the plastic (sometimes its on a sticker). Look for a number next to a capitol A.

with the 4 23w 2700k

pick up 2 of these

Feit Electric at Lowe's: 40-Watt CFL 200-Watt

and get a few more cheap middle and higher color spectrums would i be good?


oh im sorry didnt tell you the amp of my surges i have 2 that are 15A would that work then???

yeah the strips will work just like they would if plugged into the wall except youll have an extra bit of protection should you overload the circuit (not likely with ur cfls)

Mmm personally I'd get a few more 40's along with a few more 20's to stick on the plants.

im talking about will a mh or hps work because of the higher amp what lumen output should i be looking for is 172w enough for how many plants you think about 10,000 to start with will add more later in flowering

Yeah. A power strip thats 120V@15A will work for anything. Its basically an extra fuse between the lights and the wall should you overload the circuit.

As for lumens, how many plants you going to grow? I'm growing in a 7sqft area with ~45000 Lumens. Thats roughly around 6400 lumens are square foot. I dont remember the magic number but I'm actually a bit under the ideal amount. Your room is 3.7sqft with 2702 lumens a square foot. Also low.

175w would be way hot in that small of a space and 400w is overkill.

I'd take the 175w, but only if I couldn't a/c a 250w HPS.

walgreen has 2 for 5 on 100w eq cfls so im gonna pick yo 4 feit electric bulbs 2 bright white 4100k and 2 daylight 6500k

so then id have 192ws of cfl in a 3x22inx2

If its the standard US plug it should work as any normal plug... Not 100% sure. Does it say 120-330V or 330V max?

Dont bother with the 4100K. Get 2700K (2100K if possible) for flower, 6500K for veg.

Dont bother with the 4100K. Get 2700K (2100K if possible) for flower, 6500K for veg.

im just wondering what all this 4100, 2700k, 2100k is? is that lumens? and what are lumens, and how do i tell how many my 400w hps puts off?

the k mean kalvin (color spectrum of your light (bascially what color of light your bulbs put of the higher k like 6500k is in the blue spectrum of light and the 2700k is in the red BLUE for VEG and RED for FLOWERING CFl talk

but if you have a 400w (essiental most used light for mary j) is great

im not to big on umm on what color spectrum maybe someone can tell you

the lumen your light puts of is anywhere between 40,000 to 55,000L

depending on the space you are growing in

5,000l per sq foot for small plant and 10,000l for regular sized plants is basic

but if you have a 400w hps you can use that your whole grow becsuse of the lumen out put

i also have a question to ask for me

im gonna get a 100w mv light (best because it doesnt require a ballast for my limited space grow now i know the bulb puts out 8,000L (says so which is surprising for mv but it also sayes 3500k color spectrum which is way more red then blue) and they say they run in the blue spectrum is that possible for my mv bulb???

Stay away from MV. It's a waste of cash. Go CFL's if ur not willing to spend the extra cash on a HPS/MH.

The mercury vapor lamp, like the fluorescent lamp, requires a ballast designed for its specific use. Special ballasts are required for dimming.

Mercury vapor lamps, recognizable by the bluish cast to their light output, are the least efficient member of the High Intensity Discharge (HID) family. They were developed to overcome problems with fluorescent lamps for outdoor use and are actually less efficient than fluorescents.

Lamps are quite voltage sensitive. Unless special ballasts are used, care must be taken to keep the supply voltage within plus or minus 5% of the rated voltage.
