I've grown several in 3g pots, I think the 2's are better, it saves you some space, meaning you can get more under your light coverage, from my experience plants won't "use" 3gs of dirt in such a life span. I've been running 12/12 from seed to finish here lately and the 2's seem like the ideal size. I'm going by the size of the rootball after I cut the plant and pull it out. If it was plants that were gonna be staying in the pots longer than 3ish months or so, I'd say 3 would be better. But I say all this with me using Pro-mix HP, with a little super soil in the bottom 1/3 or so.
