This is my first grow. It's been about 4 weeks, and the picture below is what I've gotten so far. I have 2- 32W Florescent 4100K shop lights (they are energy efficient, and cheap to run). I understand I need different lights to grow fast and high quality sativa, but my question is will this be enough light to produce a yield?

4 weeks and its that small? You got some probs friend.

Youre definitely going to need more lighting. You are behind the power curve

Yeah I guess I have to invest in some better lights. I also potted in an 8" pot way to early. I think that has stalled the growth.

Go to Lowes, Home Depot, Menards or whatever and get a couple CFL's. You need to get some perlite in that dirt for better drainage

Dont worry about the pot. If anything itll help it grow faster cuz itll have more room too 'stretch' out.

Do you have any type of nutrients?

And get some 6500K bulbs, plants prefer light in the blue spectrum for vegging

Ok so I bought the 6500k lights and installed them today. thanks for the advice. I've been using miracle grow for house plants. They didn't have the perilite. I'm not really sure what to look for food. I'm using an all organic soil. I've been watering about every 3-4 days. I'll have to post some more pictures. The number of leaves has doubled in the last week or so. It's a tad bigger, but still about the same height. I'm just using some seeds I got in a bag a couple months back. I'm hoping it's a female. THis has kinda become a science project for me. See if I can actually produce something that doesn't just give me a headache. I appreciate your help.

check out that link, i started with a few shop lights and mg soil as well, at six weeks i had mostly really healthy looking plants that werent much bigger than yours and i put a 400w hps on them at 4 1/2 weeks. my problem was plants that had become rootbound most likely looking for nitrogen at the point they should have started flourishing. i tried my best to repot a few and the others that actually had several roots sticking out of the drainage holes i just filled another pot 3/4 the way with the new soil and stuck the pot with the plant in it on top of the pot with fresh soil. both solutions have had positive effects so far for me.

It does look a little greener and thicker :)

You can keep your lights about 2" or so from the plant without burning it.

Whats your budget like for this? If youre going with miracle grow nutrients I suggest you check out some of 'mygirls' threads. He uses MG and he gets really good results. Ill throw up a link if I see it.

Things will get better

I do have two lights and they are about 2-3" away. The plants are in the middle of a room and have decent ventilation. I keep the room temperature about 70 degrees. I'm not sure I wanted to put a fan in only because I didn't want to lower the temperature of the room. It's about 10' x5' and my heater/air condition is used.

Of coarse like everyone else, I'm trying to keep my budget as low as possible. After picking up the lights I've spent a little less than $100 on my setup. I'm not trying to sell, I just want to yield enough to catch a buzz with my girlfriend. I'll check out the links. I think I am going to repot with some different soil this weekend. I think I need to get a less compact soil too.
