outstanding thread merchant. Congrats on a fine effort and all the pics you posted on the good, bad and the ugly. I've got a DWC grow going now and it's about the same age as yours but I kept mine in veg much longer, I've just started flowering mine a few days back. I'm growing in a closet tent with cfls, I'm using mostly 2700k 32w spirals (12) and a few 27w 5k and a few 6.5k spiral lamps and one big ole 68w 2700k cfl.
My grow is from high grade bagseed, I ended up with 5 viable plants and that was reduced to 3 girls.. I think two of my girls are some Kush as they have those huge wide dark green puffy leaves and it's short and stocky. My other lady is super skunky but looks like a hybrid and it is growing so well it blows me away. I bought a net for taming the stretch and was considering topping or bending to increase the secondary buds but this gal is so frikkin bushy... I haven't touched her for anything but feeding and trimming here and there as needed. It's in a 5 gallon bucket and it's almost 28" wide now and 18" tall, it's got so many branches I can't count them or see through the plant anywhere. The two smaller females are sharing a 5 gallon bucket, I thought back when I transplanted them into the hydroton that one or both would not make it. They were sickly at first but I learned it was my ph and temps were both very high for nearly a week while I was out of town. Finally got that under control and then it started behaving but it never grew like the other plant, both of the twins are small, just over a foot tall now and it just starting to stretch some for flowering as it's been nearly a week with 12/12 lighting. I have to males that I've removed from the grow area and I'm still growing them as I want some pollen from them as they are both very healthy, super skunky smelling since they had two pairs of leaves and are very busy too, all the traits I would desire in a child.
Anyway, enough about my stuff.... man I could not believe how well your plants have done, at first when I saw that you were flowering them when they were so small I was like WTF??? what kind of yield is that going to bring? Well you proved my first assumption dead wrong. Man that girl did some stretching and growing up once you got her happy. I am inspired by how well they did. This is my first cfl/hydro grow, I've done plenty of outdoor grows back in the day and a few indoor soil based grows but this is my first full on hydro attempt (using DWC) and my first grow with spectrum specific CFLs and proper nutrients. I'm using the TechnaFlora brand, I've got a few of those sample kits with all the nute types in smaller quantities. I'm pretty happy with everything so far and I'm just now getting flowers.
Regarding your last incident where the plants nearly died while you were away, sorry to see such a fine grow have that happen that late in the game... It got me thinking, couldn't you rig up some passive trickle watering that if nothing else would hold the plants over with at least some water while you're away for days or a week? I travel out of town a lot on business, sometimes a day or two and other times it's Monday through Friday. Fortunately, the misses takes care of the girls while I'm away we get on the phone and I ask her to check this, that, etc..
I think you will really like DWC hydro if you try it. It's cheap and basic... but you have to mind the store, it's easy enough to set up float valves to large tanks for keeping nute levels unattended.
One last thing, I assume you've harvested this plant? If so, could you share the yield weight? I'm curious what that baby yielded. again, congrats on a nice first cfl grow.
