1st Grow - LED Mini Cool Cab meet Jack Herer

Hi all,
Happy to be a new member of this forum and stoked to get my first grow on I've been reading the forums for a few weeks (as a non member) and there seems to be a cool group of folks here.

The game plan…

I'll be using a LED mini cool cab and growing Jack Herer. Equipment & seeds should arrive next week.

I’ve read some other Journals and it sounds like 4-5 plants is a good number based on the size of the mini cool cab.

I was planning on trying Uncle Ben’s topping technique on at least half of the crop...maybe all.

I'll be using CO2.

Question

If my target is 4-5 female plants, should I germinate 10 seeds? Just in case a few seeds don’t pop & I have a have a couple of males.

Seeds arrived today from The Attitude Seedbank -Thanks guys

Germinating 8 Jack Herer seeds using the cab & starter plugs. Hoping to have 3-4 fems when it's all said & done.

This is my first grow so please give me some guidance guys.

Using a mini cool cab with LED's and a Hydroheart.

Day 3 of germination & beginning to see seeds cracking & tap roots

dude that cab and setup is sweet! ive never seen one of those. i have no experience with LEDs so i cant really give ya much advice...
what is the name of the device holding your lights. are they retractable/adjustable and then lock in place?? i need some of those! they look easy to use.

does make it easy to adjust the lights.

All 8 seeds have germinated and are beginning to pop their heads out of the starter plugs.

I germinated using the starter plugs that came with my system & 24hr lighting.

Realized two days into germination the air pump on my system was not working so I've been dripping water on the plugs 3 times a day to keep them moist.

Currently running 440 ppm (180 water/160 nutes)
PH 6.5-7
78-80 degrees/39%-41% humidity
CO2

I plan on running lights 24 hrs during veg which I'm estimating will be approx 20-24 days.

I've decided to use Uncle Ben's topping technique on all plants due to the size of my space.

Off to a good start...hopefully they'll be ok while I'm gone for a couple of days.

thats a pretty sweet little cab, how much did you pay for that whole thing? i like the little hydro system thats kool how they are set up idividually

It's a nice set up (especially for a newbie) but a little on the pricey side - $1699

I bought it based on results & comments from a few grow journals on this site.

Day 10
Just got back from a 4 day trip.

6 of the 8 girls (hopefully) are looking good. 2 of the seeds that cracked have not done much. I'll give them a few more days before I remove them.

Ladies range from 1.5-1.75 inches tall

24/0 lighting
CO2 24 hr

77-83 temp
38%-43% humidity

bumped up nutes to 600
PH 6-6.5

Day 11

Everyone seemed to respond well to the increase in nutes. 2 of 8 seeds still showing little or no sign of growth. Will probably pull this weekend if no improvement so I can optimize space for 6.

76 temp
36 humidity
620 nutes
6.0 ph

Hi i used uncle bens topping technique with amazing results last grow was power skunk from kannabia seeds under 400 hps in secret jardin grow tent averaged around 3 1/2 oz per plant. will be deffo following your grow i have led just waiting to be used.

Day 12
Flushed out the system last night for the first time. For the first 4-5 days I did not have a functioning air pump so I was a little concerned about my water. Also adjusted the nutes down to about 400 thinking 620 was too high based on their size. (not including 160 ppm for water in that figure)

Since I flushed I went ahead and pulled the two seeds that were not growing - RIP

I've been told a good formula for nutes is approx 100 ppm per inch of plant size up to about 1200 ppm. Would like to hear your opinions on this.

Today's measurements:

6 plants @ 1.75 -2 inches in height
80/35 temp/humid
390 nutes
6-6.5h

Day 16 - Happy New Year all.

Plants are doing well. Plant size ranges from 2.5 to 3 inches. Most have 3 nodes at this point...once they reach 5 or 6 I'll top per Uncle Ben's topping technique.

Adding just under a 1/4 teaspoon of PH up every 1 to 2 days to keep PH in the 5.5-7 range.

82/50 - temp/humidty
560 ppm - nutes only
6.0 ph

Day 20

Had a problem a few days ago with my PH & Nutes. Everything seemed to be going fine and then I got too aggressive with the nutes (about 700 ppm) and let the PH get too high 7+. Everything stopped growing for a few days & I began to see spotting on my leaves.

Flushed the system and now nutes are down to about 450ppm and PH is slowing dropping each day again. Based on comments in this forum seeing your PH drop each days means your plants are healthy & eating.

You can still see the spots on the plant to the right but all have improved.




Plants range from 3 to 4.5 inches
78/53 temp/humidity
Nutes 450 ppm
PH 6.5

I'll be topping the two biggest plants in the next few days using Uncle Ben's topping technique and hopefully the rest next week. From what I understand i should continue to veg for at least a week after topping. Based on that schedule I probably wont start flowering until approx day 35.
