1st grow on a BUDget, so far so good?

Hey guys i'm super new to growing. I read the ins and outs of this site before even starting my voyage into growing. This will be my journal for the BUDget grow.

I had some middies that was fairly good and had the seeds laying around and decided to try to grow them. I took 5 seeds and germinated them. I only planted 3. I planted the 3 in those red party cups where i cut little holes in the bottom for drainage.

I bought shultz brand potting soil for african violets, the lady at the store said it'd be good for "tomato" plants haha

so i planted the 3 seeds july 21st. and as of now they are 5 weeks old
i placed them on my window sill wich gets lots of morning sunlight.
the plants sprouted real fast but after that they really slowed down so i thought they needed more sun so i raised them a lil higher on my window sill so they wouldnt have to wait as long for the sun to come.

the 3 each grew at different rates. I took the best one wich has appeared to have two minuscule hairs on it and re potted it into a bigger pot. i left one other still in the cup and got rid of the other. I then decided to put them out on my roof. it seemed they were only getting 4-6 hours of sunlight on the sill because the sun would go up right over them to the other side of the house.

since i've put them outside they seem to really love it. I only use water and i water them once every 2 days, i added more soil a few times to the pot cause it seemed when i watered them the soil packed in slightly

i have a plastic bin i put them in while they are outside on the roof so that way they dont get hit by a super amount of wind.

i took a few pics of the one thats doing the best. the leaves are sagging a little but it seems pretty healthy.

once it gets taller should i leave it out side?? fall is coming so i think i should bring them back in

also, if i leave them out side and it rains a shit load will it drown them? i was thinking it wouldnt as long as there was holes in the bottom it would only drink what it needed right?

if i can get it to bud at all i'll be excited. all i have right now is water and the dirt i bought. i filter my drinking water so i use that and then let it sit out for a few days and then use it to water, i heard that lets some harsh chemicals evaporate.

thanks for any help

does any one know the answers to those two questions? i'm afraid that once it starts to cool off here that putting it back in the window sill wont cut it

1) The tallness of the plant really means nothing more than a privacy issue(if you're not legal). As long as temps don't drop too awful low there shouldn't be any problems. How much light/darkness it gets per day is really the issue.

2) I don't think rain will hurt your plants at all if there's proper drainage. I have left mine out in the rain a few times. Except for when the raindrops are so big they actually beat the tar out of your plants, you don't really have anything to worry about.

Have a happy grow :)

Depends on the strains tolerance to temperatures. Average though I would assume ~60 F. I would also assume it could deal with temps lower as long as it doesn't frost; growth would probably slow considerably though.

so i was continuing care for the plant formerly named stacy and this happens. wehad a rainy day so i brought it inside for the day. the next day it was wimpering badly, i figured it just needed some sun and it never stopped wimpering since. i'm certain its dead or going to be. i think its a little too late to germ and plant another one if i put it out on my roof cause of the colder climate coming.

so my question is: say i bought a light and wanted to grow indoors. does it have to be secluded from all other forms of light? like if i had the light on the plant when its normally light outside will the two different lights mess with it? i wouldnt think it would but just wanted to double check

My guess is, the plant has been growing with no fan, and the rain beat it up and over watered it.

it was out side but i brought it inside when it was supposed to rain.
it is a little windy on my roof so i doubt the whole fan scenario.
thanks though.
the picture that i just took is right after i watered it. i water every two days, and this will prolly be my last water

How long does that puddle of water sit on top of your soil? Might need to mix a little something into your dirt to help it drain. (Alotta bugs LOVE standing water, btw.)

I would say water every 2 days with that soil is your problem. You need to let it fully dry if not let the plant tel you when its dry then water. I water every4-5 days in reg soil, coco mix about 3 days.....

really so i may have drowned the poor bastard :(
in reference to the other question the puddle only sits there for a few moments, i just happened to take the picture directly after watering

if i bought a light, and decided to finish this inside, does the plant have to be secluded from all other light if the light is on while the actual plant light is on?

Not that I know of... if any other light sources are coming in I think it would only benefit if nothing else, except for when it's dark... then you don't want that ^^

If my common-sense perspective of growing has mislead me, feel free to correct me.
