1st Grow Whatcha Think?

Can anyone give me an idea of how tall they will get when I flower them. They are all white widow, from bcseedking.com.

Right now (at day 30) they average 6" tall, so I'm figuring they will be 12" - 14" by the time I flower them. I have 6'6" of headroom in what is going to be my flower room. Should I expect problems?

It's probably way too early to guesstimate yields huh?

6" will get ya 18" in my experience. Flower Now and bend your girls at 90 degrees to get a more even canopy when they shoot up, you'll have to anyways for those floros. You'll likely be looking at 0.5oz per plant with floros and you should look into lightproofing your rubbermaid tub there - they make a good product, but still allow enough light in to turn your water filmy and your roots brown. I like to toss on some foil and duct tape or use plastic rubber paint.

Thats a good looking setup ya got there.

So as a rule of thumb I'm looking at 150% growth when i flower them. ok

I see you are using cfl's. Do you use them for flowering as well?

Do you think it would be worth it to wait until i can get a hps for flowering, or would i only get a small gain? Example you say .5 oz est. with floros, could I double that with a hps, or do you think the gain would be minimal like say .6 or .7 oz that just wouldn't be worth the wait?

Another question - In my application, should I top, f.i.m. or just let them grow naturally?

I flower on CFL for now, I don't grow to sell and moneys short so I've stuck with a bunch of them. You get more weight per watt on HPS (Im not sure how much) but it brings in a lot of heat problems. HPS would be better I'm sure but buying that and the ventilation for it... not a priority for me. I'd only top or fim in veg, and only if you're gonna train them down, otherwise they split themselves in half sometimes.

I'm doing a legal medical grow, and would like to get as much as I can without getting too crazy. Every month I get a few more things. Then, after I'm confident that I can keep producing good weed (if it ever happens), then I'll take on a few other patients.

I'm thinking I'll wait for the hps to flower.

Think it takes 1 over-feeding, 1 underfeeding, 2 blown air pumps, 4 crappy air stones, and major flood to start producing the good stuff.

LOL. I try not to learn everything the hard way but i see what your saying, sometimes to really learn you need to learn the hard way.


I just learned last night not to use medical fabric tape in your res . I installed a curtain inside the res to stop leakage, but the only tape I had on hand was medical tape. Well, I was doing a res change last night and found mold forming on the tape . So I removed the curtain and tape and washed the lid and tub (it wasn't a lot of mold) and used some poly for another curtain with no tape, I just folded the curtain over the top of the lid and tucked it in the netpot holes (pic 1). Seems to be working, no leaky leaky.

I washed of all the leaves with phed water and a babies soft washrag and refilled the res with full strength nutes. They perked back up in a couple hours and seem to be to liking the nutes.

Question: If I did go full strength too soon how long will it take to show? It's been about 18 hours and they look good, so far that is.

You'd see nute burn within a couple days solidly. Get yourself a cheap TDS pen, around 1000ppm is high-prime area for most bud whereas most suggested dosing on nutes (this much per gallon) usually puts you around 500-700ppm.

Yeah I need a tds meter, that will be on my list for next months shopping.

Btw my plants seem to be thanking me for the res change with another growth spurt, Woohoo lol.

Well, here they are @ day 42. I'm hoping I don't have any problems with all this growth with them being so close to each other.

The beige tote is catching up with the blue one, but it still seems about a week and a half behind.

I really turned the nutes up on them. Since then they are getting bushy but not very tall (they've grown about 3-5 inches each).

1 possible problem though. Yesterday I noticed some tiny little spots on a leaf . I hope it aint what I think it is. What do you think? (pic 5)

That would be the slightest case of nuteburn I've ever seen. Easy enough to handle by just backing off if and only if it spreads. I max out the nutes on my grows also and just back off or starting using water only add water during the week.

Wow looking good. How is the tote setup? can you use a normal fish tank pump to make a hydro setup??

Well due to some illness (think I had some sort of pneumonia) that I think I picked up at a hospital while I was visiting a friend, I was unable to do much of anything beyond the bare minimum. It's been a horrible month & half for my family & friends. I digress....

Well, the pics I have are 12 weeks from seed & 3 weeks in flowering.

I started using the Lucas formula in week 9. General Hydro nutes. I still haven't been able to get an EC/TDS meter. I fill the res. with 15 gallons of tap water that has sat out for at least 3 days. I ph it to around 6 then add my nutes, then check the ph again, it is almost always 5.5-5.6 after adding nutes (I've gotten pretty proficeint @ reading ph with the drops). I let the ph drift to 6-6.2, which by that time is when I do a res change.

I've built a little flowering room for them when i got my 400w hps from HTG. The room is 4'6"x5'6"x6'6" tall. I made it with the wood that I got from tearing down the basement ceiling (it was 1x4's with stapled tiles) along with some 6 mil black & white poly.

At first I was having humidity problems becuase I didn't intsall ventilation (over 95% RH) due to $$ problems. I found an 8 " clamp fan, so I clampped it to the framing @ the top corner of the room, designed a light trap (since I have no ducting) for the fan and the passive intake. Now my RH stays between 45 - 50%. Temps. - around 73 F with light on & 62 with light off.

For the most part I havn't knoticed any problems except a few leaves on an ordinarily healthy plant are looking wierd to this newbie gardener they have a drooping canoe shape. You can see it in pic 7 on the top.
Any ideas on this issue?

By the time I was able to start flowering them they were on average 20". 3 weeks in and the tallest is 43. My light can only be raised another 7". I'm thinking about taking it out of that res & putting it into a shorter dwc bucket with a bubbler.

I started with 6 in the res but 1 turned out to be male (5 outa 6 aint bad).

Oh yeah 1 other strange thing, some of the side shoots over grew the main cola. Not sure why or how, I didnt do any topping, I just trimmed some of the bottom stuff.
Any Ideas?

I have 5 still vegging in the beige tote.
