1st Micro Grow 2-liter bottle looking fr guidance

So this is my 3rd grow. I am, by no means a professional or expert but I am an avid smoker, and have done my due research and thought it would be an interesting experiences to get into cultivating marijuana on a low budget, make shift, MacGyver like grow. My current setup is a bagseed in a 2-liter plastic bottle, my seedling is exactly one week old under 1 23 watt daylight cfl (i have more warm and daylight) in combination with sunlight. My soil however, is essentially dirt/clay from my backyard that i composted with kitchen scraps. And for nutrients I have miracle gro liqua feed (9-4-9) and a bloom booster from the same brand (12-9-6). Basically I am going to attempt to diligently document this grow in an effort to show how easy or difficult it can be to grow with what you have. I would appreciate anyone who has experience or ideas to share about micro grows, methods, trainings or perspectives. I'd like to keep this purely academic and discuss topics that can help other micro or "make shift" growers with information such as root issues, watering recommendations, nutrient and light schedules, etc. I will try to keep pictures posted every week and keep you all informed of my methods.

Spread the love,
LionsTooth

Week 2 fan accidently got unplugged in my closet stopping air flow, my plant seemed to be taco'ing for a while and Apparently my soil dries out fast and I think I introduced nutes to soon causing salt build up. Did a flush and it seemed to help. Just watered again today. Plant seems to need watering every 3 or 4 days, any thoughts on that? Not sure if growth is slowing or not. I could be impatient will load pics again on Monday to look for changes. Roots are starting to show as the picture states. should I cover bottle in duct tape? Also when should I FIM and add nutes. Thanks in advance to all that respond

You should darken container ( full duct tape ) to protect roots from light. Next time grab a simple potting mix instead of any clay based " yard soil " so there is less compaction. Most of those " premixed " soils have some nutes already in them so feeding doesnt have to be done for a couple weeks.

You could also do a 2-liter grow HEMPY STYLE ( perlite / vermiculite ) mix.

Or try something like this :

Hey thats beautiful budz. Thanks so much for that. I will most definitely be utilizing that on my next go round. And I will cover the plants now

Question about the SIP, how does it affect root growth? Do you know if you would have to veg less and flower a bit earlier? Does the nutrients strength change? Will this method completely remove watering besides filling the resevoir? Also can this fabric be a cut strip from a tshirt or is this specific material? If you had to guesstimate or can note an experience, how big would you say a plant can get from a container of that size, or maybe even a gallon?

Its strange timing that this thread started - i experiment with spare seeds while i wait on the current grows to finish. These seeds are unkown strains gathered from various places.

I call these Buzz Bombs ( small SINGLE COLA GROWS ) - Only growing a main cola and starting 12/12 from seed . ( ITS MOSTLY FOR SHIT AND GIGGLES ).

Water Bottle
Duct Tape
Perlite
Clonex Seedling Solution ( liquid NOT GEL ) ( this is the Main Feed ) 1 tsp per 2 quarts water .
( save EXTRA mix for FUTURE FEEDING )
Dechlorinated water ( PH 5.8 - 6.0 )
1/8 - 1/4 tsp Hydroplex ( added to mid-late flower ) ( 1 feeding only ) mixed in nute solution.

NOTE : If a male pops up ....

I keep to harvest the pollen ( to make seeds )
( small plastic bag and a makeup brush to apply ) on a lower branch of a female.

So i guess its a good experiment so far ...

Ya soil isnt the best hempy medium, perlite is much better. All you need is one hole just above the feet for drainage, and use the bottom part kinda like a resivoir.

is it possible for me to replant in perlite or should I start another and will the SIP method work the same way with perlite?
Ive never used the "sip" method...just one hole for drainage at the bottom works fine for me.But im sure ot would work fine,it accomplishes the same thing,a fast draining medium with a small reservoir. However I would probably add a little vermiculite to it if you have plants with no real root system. This way the medium will hold some water until the roots grow down into the resivoir.

For a simple HEMP STYLE " soil " - use a 3 part perlite / vermiculite mix or straight perlite.
I wash / rinse out the mix prior to planting to wash off the dust. And it predampens the mix.

I pop seeds in a rockwool cube then plant but im sure you could add a seed in another way. But with the SIP METHOD or HEMP - PH is IMPORTANT too watch. Because there is NO buffers ( like in soil ) , you have to adjust PRIOR to adding to plant.

As far as a wick - i guess you could use something like a cord or wide shoelace.
Tie a small knot at one end ( i would presoak in feed/water solution to fully saturate ) then drop knotted end back into lower reservoir. Maybe save bottle cap ( plastic ) drill hole for cord and run into planter section and screw on.

I will have try myself - :bigjoint:
