1st Scrog 2x Purple kush CFL grow

Hi RIU community. Ive been a member for a while but this is my first grow journal. Ive only grown 2 plants outdoor before this is my first attempt at indoor. Thanks for stopping by. I have a 16" x 17" x 32" grow box that i built in my closet. it has right now 3 23 watt CFLs but Im going to be buying 6 more when i get payed. Right now I'm using 1 ps2 fan looks like 2 in the pic but only one is functional. the other one was way too loud so i had to turn it off. I ordered new fans online, they should be here soon.



I got 2 PK clones from a friend of a friend, and by the time I got them and saw them I was quite disappointed to find I had spider mites already, and the plants just weren't looking too healthy.

Ive sprayed them every 3 days with a solution I made that had a quart of water, 1 tsp ground cloves, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 2 tsp Italian seasoning, 2 tbsp pressed fresh garlic. apply low heat until the mixture simmers take off heat let cool then strain it with cheese cloth. I've sprayed them 4 times and it seems to have gotten rid of them. all the new growth has been untouched by spider mites and I can't find any on any of the leaves.




I transplanted them Sunday and fed them yesterday they seem to look a little better. the leaves are really drooping down and the tips are drying right out though. Not too sure the cause of this. maybe the temp and hum. I cant seem to get my hum above 20 % and my temps are always over 80. the leaves are really yellow around the outside, maybe a zinc deficiency or maybe mag? any ideas? I bought Schultz brand plant food, veg is the all purpose and flowering is going to be the bloom builder. Just Walmarts brand as money is pretty tight.

thank you for that. i checked it out, and it looks like i just need to up the dosage on nutes. theyre growing rather slow and the older leaves are yellowing the newer ones have rings around them. I fed them today. hopefully they perk up even more. I upped the dosage. +rep

Week 3
one plant is still not reaching the screen height yet which is 8.5 inches, the other one just barely breaks through the screen. I just installed the screen i will be using today. the holes are 1.5 inches wide. the leaves are looking about the same as before. i think i need some better nutes. the nutes im using right now are schultz all purpose, which is 20-30-20. they had nothing with a higher nitrogen amount at walmart or home depot. im thinking that the high P is causing a lockout of zinc and other nutes possibly. I also believe ive been watering too much as the leaves are really looking like claws and drooping down. im using schultz organic potting soil. Does anyone have any input on my theories? Any questions, comments and criticisms are appreciated.

what I mean is i think im keeping the roots too wet and not leaving enough time between waterings/feedings and therefor not giving the roots enough oxygen. if that makes more sense and answers your question.

this may not be a huge issue.. but you probably aren't getting full potential out of your cfls. most of the light comes out of the sides of the bulbs. do some reading and look at other peoples grows and you may find that turning your lights may help with your plant growth. Good luck!

Actually ive heard this before. i was thinking about investing in an aluminum roast pan and fixing my lights on either end so it acts as a reflector, and the bulbs will be horizontal instead of the way they are now. i dont know if that would be good though, would it have the same effect as aluminum foil and cause heat spots?

Yeah, I'd stay away from aluminum all together it will all do the same thing. You have your walls painted flat white, which is a good reflector. Otherwise I'd always stay with mylar. I'm building a box pretty similar to what you have going on but for now I have a plant starting in a tub until I get the box finished. Just for a few weeks this is my ghetto setup, but it will show you how the lights are fixed. you can possibly glue some Velcro to the side of your box and some to your lights ( it will have to be strong, you don't want your lights falling on your plants or else they will die) or maybe drill them into a small piece of 2X4 into the side of your box.

I think if you re-situate your lights this way, your plans will perk up a bit. it looks like they are drooping because they are receiving the light mostly from the sides (the reflection from your paint) if not this, make sure your letting your soil dry out enough before watering again. if you do a search on over watered plants you can see what they look like.. they tend to get droopy lookin. hope this helps!

yeah i will try and figure out a way to attach them sideways. velcro might work, ill pick some up next pay along with 3 more bulbs. thanks for your help. +rep. do you have a link to your grow? i wouldnt mind seeing yours when you get it all set up

Week 4
theyre getting much bushier the branches are getting long. one of them on the smaller plant in the back the bottom branch is actually getting pretty close to the screen. I accidentally burned the leaves on the front one quite a bit, hopefully it recovers quickly. i burnt the other one slightly bot not near as bad as the front one. heres some pics

Along with changing your light position and not over-watering, you can also CUT BACK on the Nutes. Too Much, Too Early could be a big problem. Remember, these plants have survived on this planet for EONs with just soil and water. Maybe all the plants need is a few drinks of pure water, here and there. Hope this helps.

thanks man, i gave them just water a few days ago hopefully it helps them out. im going to get the lights situated when i get payed next. hopefully velcro will fix hold them.

They look pretty good, though. Have you considered topping them at all? Keep it up, otherwise.

instead of velcro put some screws in the wall and use the hook things on the back of the power strip velcro might fall and that would be bad if you didnt know for a while

yeah i actually topped the one on the left in the back. it seems to have responded well and is doing quite nice. i only topped the one to see the difference between topping and not. the front plant is actually not looking so well right now. i didnt want to damage it even more as well. thanks

oh i could do that with the one because it has hangers on it but the other one doesnt. do you have another way? would duct tape work?

How's the Grow goin'? Any updates?
