1st time grow - mini vertical system pics.

Okay time to grow my own. With some excellent direction form flojo, I found the best way to maximize my space.

Once I decided to go vertical it was time to design around the room. My space is two sections that are 34" deep 19" wide and 8 ft tall. Both spaces are in the same closet but split in two part by a bookcase(lame).
Anyways.....

I made a fastening point out of 2x4 to the wall and the angled two framing bracket at at 45 deg. angle 5 inches apart
brackets.JPG

Then just mirrored that on the other side of the all and connect the framing brackets with 2x4

angeled wood.JPG

Then made another shelf leaving 30" above the first (remember these will be growing out and up)

Next tackled the watering system. I used 1/2 inch garden plumbing with 1/4 flexible hose that had tapin hose fittings (you may need silicone, I did) . Finally capped the end of the tubes with some basic parts.

Next was the drainage. Went with 4 inch PVC house guttering. In which I cut it to the same length as my shelf's and capped it with proprietary end caps.
At the drainage end of both gutters installed a 1" bulk head. Then I hung them with some zip straps angled towards the drain hole. With a 1" screw in hose fitting I attached my drains, in which I drained my top gutter into the bottom one then into the reservoir.

If you can see it put bungees on the res to stiffen the sides.

On the other side is where i will veg and clone. Basically built a shelf, found a proper size storage container, fitted that with an eb and flow kit. Drained that into a separate res. Then on the same shelf lifted my mondi dome up closer to the light with a cinder block.

Obviously needed to separate the two light wise so I used black and white poly to close in the veg room. I can get in there easy with the installed tarp zipper.
Only prob was light leaked through the zipper so I had to make a cover for it with Velcro and more poly.

Mediums will be oasis@hydroton in 5" mesh buckets then move those buckets into 8" deep buckets drilled to drain into the gutters.

Lighting will be 400w hps With 6" can fan, carbon for the smell. and behind the tarp gonna use a 24" 4 bulb T5 HO Sylver Star

Here is a pic for an idea of the scale and layout.

Just wanted to give a + rep to flojo, and to the whole rollit up crew. Lots of good stuff on here couldn't have gotten anywhere with out it

Please give and suggestions or tips, as I will need help.

BTW gonna start with super skunk clones.

looks good brotha..

it seems like there is just a couple of screws to take out that shelf?

i think after a couple runs and you become comfortable with the whole process, you should take out that shelving, duplicate the other side (maybe even add a row)
and possibly add some narrow shelving (bout 6 inches deep) on the back wall and do some vertical soil plants.. this way you could have plants on 3 sides of the light.

then add a cool tube in the middle and run 3 400w hps... you could pull some mad weight outta that closet. well over a pound per harvest, prolly a pound and a half once you got it all dialed in. then all you would need to do is get a small wardrobe tent, or growing tent for moms and veg area.. or you could get an armiore or dresser and convert it into a stealth veg chamber.. that would be slick

looks great man, you have some craftsman skills for sure, cant wait to see it filled up!

Thanks bro. Yea I took those screws out, after I looked at it for a min. I was gonna tie zip straps to it but noticed the pot wouldn't sit there. Yea my bro is already buggin to knock all that out at go big. prolly after a run or two.

definitiely after you get a couple runs under your belt, then you can tinker around with it to maximize that one side.. then once you get that dialed in, you can add the other side, a couple more rows, and another light or 2.

haha man you got a sick little closet setup i cant wait to see it in action

oh ya, and i love that little mini ebb n flow but be sure to do a couple things...

first be sure that you get the smallest pump possible, and also use the smallest hose fitting possible.. otherwise your pump will outpump your draining capabilities and it will flood the whole table and spill all over your closet LOL

Yea I went with 1/2 inch supply with a 3/4 drain. I took the middle spacer out of the drain so it wouldn't be too close to the top. I attached a 160 gph pump, since it is about 4 ft off the ground it takes about 3 min to rise up to the drain level and then never really climbs too high drains pretty quick too.

you think that 15 min every 2 hours is right on target??

Please do. I am not exactly an expert but the the mutiple evenings of staying up till 4 am here at riu gave me just enough to be dangerous (ihope)

Thanks for the comments guys

Hey FLo,

Since you don't roll with a reflector that bulb stays vert. being that i don't have two sides should I go with a reflected cool tube like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=400046352411.
and just hang it vertically

And would that 600w digi. be overkill or still would it make everything dense like heaths grows? Thanks as always

ya but i would try and get a lumatek ballast preferably.. they are the best digitals

and a 600 i think would be ideal, it will give you room for expansion without a need for upgrading.. if i were you, id tear out that closet, and do 2 or 3 600s in there, in a cool tube reflector with about a 500-600 cfm fan too keep things nice n cool..

overkill is never a bad idea as long as you can keep the temps in check

sup everybody,
went ahead and added another shelf today so might go 9 or 10 plant for flowering. measured what I estimate will the canopy size looking at about 40" by 20". Now that I'll be pushin 600 watts, if I can keep everything optimal and push the plant a a little on nutes anyone got and ideal yeilds. hopefully 3/4 to 1 gpw.

crops gonna be super skunk which will be topped

less is always more with nutes... and there is no way to determine yield till after you crop.. too many variables involved

Alright guys here is an update:

Got my clones of durban poision last friday. And also have been germin some bag seeds for about 11 days before that.

Transplanted the seedlings from the humidity dome and the clones into the veg system on Friday, and just feed straight water till Sunday afternoon and and then just feed them 6 hours before dark on sunday. Today started feeding nutes in every feeding. Doing canna vega and cannazym at about 425 ppm with H & G roots excelerator. Gonna bump it up to 560 on friday and start LST.

Temp is 76 day 72 at night humidity is between 53 and 56 percent

lights at 18/6

Does anyone know if wating till 5 or 6 nodes is proper time to top clones or is that just for seedlings. Mine are already alternating so thats why I ask.

any comments or suggestions or critizisms welcome

looks good bro, clones are looking good.. with seedlings you should usually wait till about 3-6 nodes depending on vigor, but with a clone you can clone it pretty much whenever it has a root mass that can support new growth.

Thanks Flo

Thinking about giving the clones till friday and top and lst them to get them all even. Just a little worried about the 100% sativa maybe being to big, but well see.

Crazy how well these plants respond to nutes so quickly. so far so good

yea as soon as you add nutes they start to take off , as soon as you see some roots developing and new growth id say you are good to go with topping em
