1st Time grow with mars 300w led

So you could get this set up.

1x MeanWell HLG-240H-54B $72
4x Luminus CXM22s 90cri 3500k $19 each
4x BJB holders $2.50 each
4x 133mm pin heat sinks £21 each

$242
But you would need some wire, a length of aluminium angle and some thermal paste, none of which are expensive.

Or a bit cheaper set up.

1x meanwell HLG 185h c1400b $54
4x citizen clu048 1212s $9 each
4x BJB holders $2.50 each
4x 120mm Heat sinks $18.50 each

Total $174
Again , aluminium for frame is needed, wire, thermal paste is needed.

Both set ups would light up your space really well but the first is more efficient.

If your prepared to look into this DIY COB build then check out growmau5 on youtube and search his early vids where you will find a 7 part vid which covers all the basics. It may sound complicated to start but you will soon get your head round it and if not lots of folk on here have done this and will help you along the way.

Definitely thanks for the information, I will do a little research on it and check out those sites. I got about 4-5 weeks on current grow so still got some time to piece things together. Are the COB LED' on the King light just less efficient? I think the Mars only pulls about 85w if I remember right.

Yeah that's pretty much it, the cheap cobs like those kings are less efficient and the drivers are less efficient to so more power wasted there. But there is also a difference in spectrum, those kings and many like them are using many tiny blue and red diodes as well as some others where as most of us LED guys these days use White COBs or boards. The spectrum is very different, broader than that of "blurple" lights. Its more natural.

Enjoy your research, it might seem overwhelming to start but it will all click into place all of a sudden.

Or even get 200w of Cobs.

Mars is about 20-25% efficient
Vero 29 cobs from timber are 50%

So with 130w of mars you get 32w of light and 97w of heat at best

200w of the cobs I mentioned will get you 100w of light and 100w of heat...
That's not really how it works a watt is a watt as far as heat so 600w hps puts out the same heat as 600w led. The difference is you get more light per watt if you are using high quality led. Also the led put out far less IR so the room can be run hotter because the surface temperature of the leaves is lower without the IR

I agree a bit overwhelming, sort of hard to visualize how all the parts are mounted. Is there some pictures or examples of how you would mount everything? Would it all mount to a square aluminum plate? I see some are completely assembled boards and driver on top. I didn't see any sort of frame on cobkits

Nevermind on that last post, I see how it is framed up or fabricated. Would it be better for all 4 leds in a row or more square frame or would that really matter? I am thinking of building with the first option you mentioned.

Does this look like a complete list of what I would need minus the wire and frame material? Kind of unsure on the reflectors. Do the passive heat sinks work pretty well? Just wondering what sort of temps the light will generate...run about 75-78 now during day with current light, maybe down to 65-68 during night cycle.

Yeah looks good. If your tent is square build it square. Reflectors are optional. Personally I don't use them. Its not a must have in smaller set ups. Passive heat sinks work really well as long as they are not drastically undersized and those are good.
I couldn't tell you the exact heat your tent will be, the more watts you have the more heat. You can always dim the light in summer. You will still have plenty of light and your plants will be happy.
If your buying from cobkit.com you can always ask him on here @CobKits to have a look at your set up before you buy and ask him any questions you are unsure of. He's a pretty helpful guy. bongsmilie

P.S sorry for late reply, I'm in England, different sleep times :bigjoint:

looks good, get (2) 5-slot wagos for easy wiring with that driver

Thanks and no problem on the delay, would you think a dimmer pot would be a must? I don' have a tent, I built a box with plywood and 2x2's top flowering area is 30x24x60 and lower VEG area is 30x24x36...side panels are 1 inch foam board inserts. It covers a basement window and vents directly outside. Live in the country so don't have to filter exhaust.

Sounds good, similar to amount you would use on a computer CPU and heatsink then?
Yes its exactly the same.
As far as dimming with a pot, don't think you need one, I believe the b version driver has current and voltage dimming options. Just a tiny screw to turn under the little black rubber caps.

Should be fairly straight forward assembly and will work up a frame design. Looking forward to parts arriving. I think some of this issues I am having on current grow are light related..ph issue likely as well. Trying to adjust and last time growing in soil..going to coco. What do you think about current buds? They are about 5 weeks into flower.

Was wondering if you could answer a cpl of questions on wiring my light.
Basically I start on say the positive side and run to positive of first COB, then neg of same COB to positive of next until I loop back around to wago fastener on neg side..is that correct?
My hlg-240h-54b driver has dimmer lines, is it ok to leave those out and maybe add a dim pot later?
The wago has 5 slots but I would end up just using two slots on ea one correct?
Some pics for what I have so far.
