just dropping a post on here hopefully to get some pointers, im about to start a grow of 4 plants i have 2 light but only planning on using 1 could any1 help me ont the size of area i need for my babys and what wattage lamp i will need any other pointers will be greatly appreciated.also i need to know what the best soil is that i can buy in england

400w hps/mh would be optimum and not wasteful for 4 plants, keep it 12-18" from the tops and you'll be fine
mh is better for vegging (blue spectrum) hps is better for flowering (red spectrum). You can get a dual ballast so the both work in the same set up.

my advice as a newbie my self is not to use soil and for the light what is the size ov your room and do u want alot or just alittle yeld?

it may seem that hydro is hard to use but like i said im new to this my self and i am on an nft tray and i dont think it is as hard as people make out but u can stil use canna in pots and hand feed but that becomes hardwork as my bloomin 3 week old bluecheese is drinkin 7l of water a day if u grow in soil u carnt keep an eye on nutes so u dont no how much food they r gettin nft trays r not expensive 2 buy iv got a tred on he with sum pics ov mine pal

read the one about lighting and the one about nutes.
When you can answer the following, you're ready to plan out your grow.
What are:
lumens,
square feet
color-temperature?
What's the minimum amount of lumens/sqr feet for plants to grow?
What's the lumens per square feet on a bright summer day?
What's the range of temperatures that marijuana can thrive in??
Why are the following important for plants?
Nitrogen
Phosphorus
Potassium
What's a hempy bucket?
What's the difference between hydro and bubbleponics? What are aeroponics?
What's the optimal ph for nutrient absorption in plants?
Why is ph important in gardening?
When you know all of this, you'll know how much to spend on your setup, and what's best for you.
then you want to find out stuff like this:
What's a deficiency?
What does N deficiency look like? How is it different from burning due to high temps?
How do you diagnose it? How do you treat it?
(Same question for N P and K)
How often is too often, in terms of feeding??
What's flushing?
What are the NPK ratios for vegging and flowering?
if you can't answer the questions above off the top of your head, you're not ready to grow.

You will need an inline fan and an active charcoal air filter... just attach them together and run it 24/7 in the middle of your grow space when you begin to flower your plants.
Because flowering plants with buds will stink your whole building up if you dont filter the air. you do not want your neighbors or landlord to smell anything
(calculate CFM of fan needed by calculating the area of your grow space... ex: length X Width X height = Area) Then match the Area number to the CFM of a fan to determine the size of the fan needed.
So if your grow area is 5'Long X 5'Wide X 5'High = 125cubic feet, so you would need a 125 CFM Fan.
Plus if your planning on growing in a small space start flowering your plants (12hours on-12hours off light
periods) as soon as they reach 12 inches in height... other wise the plants will outgrow your space, and cause an unmanagable canopy, resulting in a small harvest. Over grown plants can also prove to be impossible to clean if they happen to get a spider mite infestation... (which is common)
Also make sure you do not exceed the amps rating of your electrical outlets.
If you have to use extension cords, DO NOT USE ANYTHING BELOW 12 GUAGE EXTENSION CORD to prevent possible electrical fire.
Only use commercial type timers as well.
Take this advise into careful consideration. The safety will give you peace of mind when you are growing, and in this feild, peace of mind is priceless

If you do choose soil go for Canna Terra, Bio-Bizz, Plagron Batmix Etc. You pay £15-20 but the quality difference shows. Dont go for a £1.99 bag of crap you will only run into problems 9/10/
well my internet has been down for the last few days so havnt been able to check out these replys,

since my first post i have been and brought myself a 1m2 tent from my local hyrdro store i also picked up a nice bag of meduim wich i have been assured will be perfect right the way through the grow. all i need now is my seeds or cuttings and im away.please feel free on adding any info you think i may find helpfull.
