1st Time Grower // Strain: White Rhino // Starting from seeds

Well… as stated earlier not much to report… and this could be the reason why:
Orange Highlights = PreVeg Stage (under a single T5HO)
Blue Highlights = Veg stage (under 400w HPS)


So just barely getting started in the veg process… got a ways to go obviously and looks like I won't be harvesting until sometime in December. (according to the package the seeds came in, flowering is 70-79 days!!! and I didn't know any better when I bought them, I figured cool… they'll be done in 70-79 days and didn't realize that just meant the FLOWERING stage and not the whole way through )

I feel like things are looking good… Here is a pic from 9:00 this morning


And then at 6:30 tonight right after the lights turned on.


Funny story about the lights turning on. Wifey and I are heading out for a 3day weekend to celebrate our 1year wedding anni and she goes… "How you going to do when we're gone? You're in here all the time." I replied saying, well I'm in here cuz i'm addicting to watching them grow, I don't necessarily need to be in here and they should be fine while we're gone. Then she goes "Well how are you going to turn on the light?" — that's where I LoL'd because I guess she didn't realize I the light on a timer hehe.


Some may noticed I moved them around… I plan to rotate them around…*have the girls play musical chairs lol… so I figure I'll rotate them clock wise for the hell of it.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ME!! I HAVE GIRLS!!! 5 of 6 appear to be 100% confirmed girls. (labels #2-6). #1 Appears to be a Male? I'll let you guys help with that decision… to be safe… I have it in the corner of the tent so that when air blows it's way… it can't blow on the girls.

Male? or … Wait a day or two more?

On 9/9/11 I shared pics of what I said might be nute burn/deficiency (on girl #5), It doesn't appear to have gotten worse nor have gotten better but here's a few more detailed pics of them to-date:

Also… last night I was seeing signs of either pest or something else… so here are the pics of what I was seeing:




I was talking to my really close friend about it last night for awhile and he suggested looking into "Safer Brand" as a safe alternative and not going to the extreme in regards to such products like neem oil.

So today I went shopping for items I needed for propagation as well as that preventative maintenance I was talking about (I still need to get back out there and pick up some sort of filter method though… I'm thinking just put a panty hose on the intake… cheap and effective?)


This appears to be hitting the nail on the head in terms of what I'm seeing on the underside of a few of the girls. "Black Spots"


I purchased "CloneX"… I know that there are others that are probably cheaper but I figured… one bottle is going to last me a long time, figuring that it wouldn't be like I need to keep purchasing it on a continual basis. But it's my understanding there maybe a shelf life on these gels? Anyway, the one pictured below was given to me as a sample from 1 of the 2 local hydro shops I went to today. The company was formally known as "Hydroponix" but the owner that gave me the sample said they have changed their name to "X Nutrients". Wish they were open when I went there the first time because then I wouldn't have bought the CloneX when I went to the other store (where i got the CloneX & Safer Brand, oh well…) I looked into X Nutrients stuff… seems like another decent alternative to another brand of nutes to try out whenever I run out of Dyna-Gro


I needed some trimmers so I finally bought bought some


And new finally… my propagation area is 90% complete:

• 7" dome w/vents
• tray
• tray inserts
• heating mat
• and the existing 2ft Sun Blaster light I was using

— The 10% missing is just 1 item: SunBlaster's NanoTech T5HO Reflector (which I'm in no rush to buy, but would be nice to have)


So I think tonight… I'll top a few of the girls to A.) experiment with the topping method from Uncle Ben & B.) to experiment with cloning for the first time ever. Unfortunate part is… by the time the clones are ready (should I be successful at it) I won't have anything to put them under since I only have 1 tent that I'm using for vegging/flowering. :

Nice dude, keep up the good work. Can't wait to see how your cloning goes. I was given the same sample of root jell from my hydroponics store, but mine was in a pouch. +rep.

White rhino got me stupid high like 5 hrs and im a veteran smoker...looks like u might have some spider mites,ust take care of em b4 flowering always u will have nightmares

HAHA, that's fuckin awesome to hear. I can't wait… but I have to wait LOL.

I did another inspection and you may very well be correct. I found one lil tiny ass bug…*not sure what it was but I smooched that muh fuqqa!! and I think I can see results already having used that SaferBrand from the black spots

Date 09/14/11 - Part 2
On the note of … filtering the intake… here is a shot of my intake:


And the filter I cut up to put in the intake. When that one gets dirty, I'll just cut up another one to size, should last me at least a year.


Alright, so after getting all the propagation needs earlier on this day… I decided on this night to go ahead and try UB's topping method on two of the tallest girls and try my luck @ cloning (y'all probably gonna laff @ me for some of it lol) I'll let the pictures do the talking:






Now here is where I think folks may laff at me; for the ones on the FAR left … I'm pretty sure you're not suppose to try and clone the single leafs? I'm trying anyways


So as mentioned earlier on this entry date… I got CloneX @ one shop and then at the other shop I got a free sample of X Nutrients MX Clone gel so I figured I'd run a little test on the two. On the left is the CloneX and on the right is the MX Clone, so we'll see how that goes.


Date 09/17/11
This morning I did my usual, check in on the girls and make sure all is well and kept inspecting #1 to see if it would turn into a female or if those signs I saw of sacks were in fact making this a male. Unfortunately this morning I confirmed that #1 is a fuqqing male!!!!

What does one do with a Male? I took it out of the tent this morning?! I feel like it's just a waste if I just throw it away but if there isn't much you can do with it then I guess that's that? I figured asking the community might spawn some ideas. Like… can I keep it around it will make seeds that I can use to germinate with? I dunno, looking for suggestions on that.

Also… the dispensary said if any of them turned out to be males, take it back. Question is… is that worth my time? Because technically the pack of seeds should have only come with FIVE, but I got SIX and clearly the extra was a Male; but I don't think they know that I got 6 in that package… Dunno how I feel about bringing a plant into the club LOL

Noticed this out of #2… I'm feelin' the need to get the girls into 5g pots on 9/21/11… should be their permanent home all the way through harvest and I think they're ready.

I've also up'd the nutes to pretty much match this table for 5g bucket of RO water… I'm now on the "All Other Weeks" in the "Vegetative Growth" (vegging 12 days now). On the "First Week Vegetative" I used a little less than that table "recommends" with the theory "less is more" (thinking I could always add more nutes if necessary, which I never did… hehe). After getting home from the weekend when I saw the girls, which I had watered on the morning I left (so watered 9/17/11 10:00am & watered tonight 9/19/11 7:30pm) I noticed that they went through water like a MUG while I was gone. Probably a combination of them coming out of the first week of vegging under the HPS + it was pretty hot apparently while we were gone, temps in the tent likely reached low 90s. So I figured it's going to be hot and they look like they can handle healthy dose of nutes, so tonight they got the new dosage in their watering. Girls seem to be doing good overall.


Had to go through also and inspect for bugs… had found a few… so tomorrows goal for sure = hotshots pests strips + 5g buckets and maybe another round of SaferBrand.

Clone Update: The single leaf items I tried to clone didn't do so well upon returning home, pulled them out (as 2 b expected). The actual ones that should have a chance, I noticed one rooted for sure… the others I'm going to for day 10 before I see either pull or wait a lil bit longer.

PS (personal sidestory): went to the dispensary today; kind of sad that I call them (and go there) to see if they'd like me to bring in the male plant or just the packaging or what and the chick on the phone was like "oh it must be pretty big um blablah, well you know it'd be best if your called tomorrow and spoke with the manager, blahblah" I was like it's maybe 10" tall, not all that big really but anyway looks like the guy I gotta speak to is there only tues & thur
Anyway, picked up a 1/2 of "Odyssey" (suppose to be 50% indica/50% saliva) for $90

——— Update 9/20/11 to the Male plant. Today I spoke with the guy I was suppose to speak to and he said to just bring the bag the seeds came in, no need to bring the plant in as they don't really need to verify they'll just take our word for it. So the question remains… chop down the Male… or keep it for … breeding? I dunno what to do with him!!

I would just get rid of the male and move on to focus on the girls! GIRLS are WAY more FUN......lol....pun intended.. I mean it would really suck if BY CHANCE it pollinated your girls......uggg! Other than that the plants are looking really good! Nice topping by the way.....and hey you experimented with the cloning...props to you....sounds like your having FUN and that is what makes you progress in IMO. Keep up the good work! Nice intake setup +rep.

LOL Yah, the pic of the ball sack was the LARGEST sack on that bad boy… so I highly doubt he got a chance to 'get … it… on…' LOL. Good idea though, def. gonna just on the girls. Think I'll let the male do his thing and put him out doors and see what happens to him hehe

Went shopping for the girls today… here's the new low down.
- HotShot No-Pest Strip2 (2 of em)
- Botnicare Cal-mag (32oz, same size as the rest of my Dyna-Gro nutes)
- 5g pots/saucers (and btw… wtf why is it so damn hard to find FIVE GALLON pots on the cheap??? HomeDepot/Lowes … all they have is 3g, 3.8g or 7g — WTF… no in-between size?!?!?! I gave in and went to the hydro shop and thats how I ended up with the cal-mag and SaferBrand "EndALL Insect Killer" to add for good measure on pests)


Also went to the dispensary. Told them about my male that I got and brought back the original package. They were pretty damn nice about it and didn't even need to see the male, they were like… do you want a clone, a pack? I told them I didn't really have room for a clone right now as I only have one tent. They offered a new pack of seeds and even said I could swap if I wanted too. So… I did… I told the guy to pick one for me as there were so many to pick from… and ended up with "Big White". In all reality… my original "5-pack" contained 6 seeds and well, that 6th seed was a male… so realistically I just got another pack of 5-pack for free. This one however does only have 5 seeds the time hehe.


Also added a tray above the light, it came with the "Jiffy greenhouse" that I bought just for the damn heat pad lol… I dunno why but I just don't like to go to the hydro shops, but seems like it would just save me a lot of time just going there from now on.


Clone Update: they seem to be hangin' in there I guess? I think I may have like 25% success with these, we'll see though. I'm pretty sure I'll do better next try hehe.


So I tried to get to work early tonight on xferring the girls… It was hot outside today… so I just shut the windows and ran the A/C since the biggest heat source in the room is off until about 6:40~ish. Plus I work from home… so I would have ran it anyways since I work from home. So the light seen is from the 2ft T5 light I have over my propagation dome. Looks brighter in the pic than it really is (thought of it as a "mini sunrise" lol) and the tent was opened about 15mins prior to the light trying on. So I figured I try to get as far as I could with the xfer to the 5g pots but…


only got to hanging the Hotshot No Pest Strips2… not bad only $13.98 @ home depot for the two

(in regards to the pic above) I of course added more soil on top as you can see the original dry soil from the pot it came from… buried right up to the first cotyledons that sprouted.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not going with my gut instinct while @ the hydro shop and picking up more soil!

So I only got TWO done
