Yeah I know that would be best, but I can't find it and don't want to buy one. I'm thinking I will just wait til next Friday when they are finally predicting some rain.

Looks close, but I would wait a bit more if it was me.......
None of the trichs visible on leaves look amber, but I THINK I see one on one of the bud pics.
Your camera seems to take clear enough pics, can you snap more in a day or two then enlarge it on your screen to see any better?

That's what I've been doing, taking pics on my phone and zooming in to check trichs. It seems to work ok, and I can identify amber trichs but can't tell the difference between clear and milky. Does the ratio of amber/milky trichs have anything to do with taste, or is that more in actual plant material?

taste is coming from oils in the buds and shiet( i think) when trichomes turn amber, it means that the trichome is biodegrading. when trich's are cloudy they have the most psycoactive cannabinoids and such. it doesnt need to be viewed as a science man, when buds are dense, no more new pistils are being made, buds are smelly & sticky, node calyxes come off easily, fan leaves are dying, then its time to harvest, dry and cure. :bigjoint:

i have 2 left outside, and they are still making white pistils.
And one that looks like yours. For that one I'm waiting till
Next Friday. The other one, who knows. Maybe Halloween.
What strain is that? Looks cool.

Yep you dont want them to turn brown. The plant is ready once all or most of the trichs turn from clear to cloudy. That is also when the buds are at their peak THC.

I too have seen only cloudy, no amber trichs on my girls, so I'm waiting with strained patience.

Yeah, I check every plant every day and cut at the first flush of amber provided we have 80% milky and the flush appears on more than one cola. These criteria have served me well over the years.

The trichs have really swollen the last couple of days with the weather and it's really easy to tell milky from clear now. They will ripen a little while drying so that's as far as I am willing to go in the field.

High All, got to "LUV" october!!!!;-) personally I believe this month "fine tunes" our outdoor grows!!:weed: but the "ready" of a plant is more "preference" then anything else!! intence and ilove have great points to consider, but really its more what each individual grower is looking for in the final high!! if what you want is this:eyesmoke: then clear to cloudy is best!! but if what you want is this:sleep: then cloudy to amber or even mostly amber is what your shooting for, and if this is the case, then you want to use every day of october mother nature gives ya!!! before she freezes!!!!:hump: hope this helps you.. HAPPY HARVESTING TO ALL!!!!:peace:

Yea man I was going through this same problem last night. I ended up chopping because I saw enough milky tric's and they were starting to turn amber. The color of the trichome is a reference to its maturity, I try to go for 60 or 70% milky and about 15% clear and 15% amber. Theres other things that can let you know to, if the leaves are turning colors and starting to fall off on their own it might be time to get out there! Also don't think its an all or nothing kind of deal - I only chopped half of mine down and the others need another week or so. Your stuff looks like its almost there, mostly milky I just can't see if they're amber yet, I'd give it another week or so!
