1st Time With Autos. 600w Ak/49 and Critical Jack.

Short and Sweet. Not my first grow but not my 100th. It is my first time with Autos and not in a tent though.

600w HPS/MH
3 Gal Pots
8 Ak-49 1 Critical Jack

week 1.
IMG_0068.jpgIMG_0069.jpgIMG_0070.jpg

4 of the 9 plants were started 4 days after the first 5 when I realized 9 was a feasible number for a 600. I will be doing my dates by the first 5 and they cracked the soil on 2/16. They are in bags for easier re potting because I read that Autos should never be transplanted. This way I can just remove the bottom of the bag and the rest will decompose in the soil. They will be repotted in their 3 gal containers on 2/30 and switched to flowering on 3/3.

The bigger one on the left is an Amnesia plant I started to make sure I still had my green thumb, still trying to decide what to do with her she grew well but with my light cycle I will never be able to flower her.

Questons/Concerns/Comments ALL WELCOME!!

Will be updating weekly...

Also shout out To Vision Seeds received in under 10 days from purchase, and all 9 cracked and sprouted in under 4 days.....Well Played.

It was a rough week in the garden. I went out of town last weekend after I finished setting up the 600. I lowered it to about 6" above the plants waited an Hour and check the temps. It was around 69 right at the level of the plants tops, But I come back and checked on them on Monday and all the little ones (4) were dead. I think they got to much light for being seedlings, live and learn I guess. They were brave ladies and will go to Shiva Valhalla to flower in the afterlife.
Also I gave of the bigger ones that survived but was beat up to a buddy along with the Amnesia plant that barely survived as well. I really wanted to just focus on the Ak-49, and It will be nice to compare harvest from his set up to mine.

I oredered a 4x3x5' grow tent along with a inline fan/carbon scrubber. Should be here in the next week so will be set up for next weeks update.

Here are the pics of the surviving ones transplanted. I also germinated 2 more ak seeds to get back up to 6 total. Here are the 4 surviving ladies one seems to be doing alot better then other 2.

I will say this, even though it has been a rough week in the garden I forgot how much I enjoyed growing and am excited to continue:)

Also has anyone else had this "over saturation of light" issue?? You can see in the second pic what happened to one of the older ones that was closer to the bulb like the littler ones. I have an adjustable ballast so I moved it down to 75% as well just to play it safe, will move back to 100% next week. I guess I will keep my seedlings under the flouros for 2 weeks from now on!!

OK so things in the garden went better this week. I had to do a little babysitting because i was getting burned leaf tips again, and after much investigation it turns out my fan just decided to quit working for a few hours and then it turns back on so im none the wiser  I have purchased a new fan and things have been more stable since .

I Now have 2 of the oldest plants and 3 youngins about a week old, I gave another of the "heat damaged" ones to my buddy so I am at a total of 5 plants. I believe this is a good number to have under a 600w but i may be under doing it.

Also the grow tent arrived, but was 1" too big for my space.......So i have ordered some panda poly and will just make a little room out of it, should be set up with inline fan and carbon scrubber by next week, fingers crossed.

Now onto the pics, One of the oldest is doing great on her 4th set of leaves. The second big one was one of the light damaged ones i kept myself, I trimmed all the burned leaves and she seems to be responding well. Also I started my new 3 seedlings in their final containers (3 gal bags) and will see if there is any difference in growth between them and ones that were transplanted.

And to finish I also switch to the HPS, 100% power...

Excited for week 4!!

It is hard to believe what difference a mere week makes in a garden, these Ak-49s grow with a passion in the right enviorment. The 2 oldest plants have exploded in growth and it seems I have gotten 2 different phenotypes One seems to be more indica dominant the other sativa, look at the pics and let me know what you guys think.

The two youngings are doing great under the HPS and are 14 days old . I believe the grow bags from the start make a huge difference seeing as they are twice the size of the first 2 at the same age.

The little one is the more sativa dominant strain, and is finally recovering from the torture she was put through. I know she wont yield much being so stunted but i have the room for it why throw her away??

Things are really starting to smooth out (temp and growth wise at least) with a little trial and error. Next Time I wont throw 11 plants into an untested environment, big mistake >.> .

Things were chugging along steadily this week. The only change is I transplanted the stunted to an AIRPOT I had lying around. She is already flowering at 8 " tall and 2 nodes lol so i dont expect much at all from her, but will be nice to try out new equipment.

As you can see in the pics the 2 oldest ladies are flowering and are in their vertical growth stage. One is about 13 inches the other about 15 so far.

The 2 younger ladies are doing well, and progressing accordingly.

I figure about 5 more weeks till harvest time :) Happy Smoking

I was trying to figure out the next strain I will grow now that most things have been learned/dialed in. I think maybe the WW by vision seeds...

The ladies are doing well, growing with much vigor.

There are def 2 phenotypes for this AK-49 (AK-47 renamed) as you can see in the pics one is more sativa dominant the other indica. The fan blades and height tell the whole story.

The only problem is that these plants are to damn bushy, the lower branches are wilting form lack of light. Should they be trimmed off so the plant can focus on the top bud sites??

4 more weeks!!!!

ok i have been doing a little bit of research on flowering times. Do you guys use the growers guidelines on flowering times?? Do you start counting flowering days after 2 weeks, or when the first pistils showed?? I would normally start from when i put them in 12/12. It seems they were suppose to flower after a mere 2 weeks, but my ladies didnt show any pistils till damn near four weeks in....Should I start counting the days according to then? Any help would be awesome ....... PLZ new to the autoflower game.

If its from first pistils these things are gonna be huge. they are already over 2' tall can only hold 3 ' tall plants.... and they barely are shooting pistils im guessing im going to have to tie them down....

OK so after a post and some very informative answers I have decided to count flowering days from around 28 days in.

Secondly I moved my light up and spaced my plants out, I think I was being overly greedy with my light height and was not actually using it efficiently. Also I was worried about the plants growing to tall for my space so I tied down the two oldest, I guess most people call it LST, but it seems to have helped the lower growth greatly(and was so easy).

Now onto the ladies, the two oldest seemed to have slowed their vertical growth, and are 26" and 24" respectively. The runt is even doing OK reaching 12" after much trauma. The two younger ones seem to be growing and are flowering about a week earlier then their sisters did.

I have also finally gotten up to 100% on the bloom nutes, and to be honest they seem to love it. Most people tend to caution nutes with auto maybe some strains are suspect-able to over nuting.

And one last thing before the pics. The smell of this Ak-49 is super potent, smells kinda lemony, but it is ridiculousness pungent.

One question though. When/Do you trim the larger fan leaves from autos to help light penetration? Do you take only the ones that are in the way?

Please any comments or tips are welcome and encouraged.

Things went well this week, the vertical growth has all but stopped on the 2 big ladies. Bud sites are popping up everywhere, I have been lightly LST'ing them even supercropped a few branches (not on purpose). It is looking like they are going to take 11-12 weeks total, a far cry from the 63 days the breeder says.

Even the runt has reached close to 2ft tall now, first pic.

It seems the younger ones that where put right into the 3 gal bags are going to be taller then their sisters that were transplanted multiple times. They also seem to be about 1-2 weeks ahead of their sisters at the same approx time.

Sorry for short post just been busy week, with busier weekend. see ya all next Friday.

Edit: sorry for bad shots was in a little of a rush:)

The oldest lady is starting to fill in nicely, while the second largest spent most of the week recovring from a LST tragedy.
It seems to be about two more weeks for the biggest girl, 3 weeks for #2, and 4 weeks for #3 and #4.

Stop nutes for lady #1, will continue for one more week on #2.

How much are you feeding them right now in full flower? they are a bit underdeveloped to me for 10 weeks? what kind of nutes are you using?

only the 2 big ones are at 10 weeks the other 3 are 7-8. FF Big Bloom only nute Im using. And the ones that are 10 weeks are over 36" tall, 3x the size the breeder says they would be. Thanks for stopping in First other poster beside myself :)

Also want to call BS on the breeders 9 weeks seed to harvest, maybe if they were in tiny pots it might have been quicker but much much smaller plants...

Eh no problem man, I'll tell ya what get yourself some tiger bloom thats what your plants are missing! they are missin that P .. I give my plants a little bit of the big bloom and alot of Tiger bloom and my buds swell up like crazy, check out my threads of my Think Differents, roadrunners, and blue mammoths... It will make a world of difference! good looking plants for sure! On the 9 week time frame its just an estimate buddy most of the time they go over usually 2 to 3 weeks over breeders recommendations.

Ya i stunted the 2 big girls with a couple transplants. But to be honest they have grown so much larger then their sisters that were started and will finish in same pot. They will take a couple weeks longer being stressed so much but they are huge compared to their sisters and most autos i see. I may try to recreate these plants on my next grow with multiple transplanting and a little LST. I hoping for at 3 oz off the big one and 2.5 off her little sis.

Also on the way to the hydro store to grab some tiger bloom. it was what I used on previous grows but say the big bloom, saw the all organic, and thought I might as well as play it safe with the nutes for my first auto. But it seems they are actually pretty hardy plants and like nutes, contrary to what my research has said. I hope its still lime green like it was back then, always made me laugh. TB looks so unnatural but works so well. Unfortunatly the biggest girl wont get to drink the sweet nectar.

EDIT: and for size reference those are 2x6 in the picture

bigger pots take longer to veg
but you have a few more weeks close to 4 from what i see big pots longer veg the introduction of flower nutes also pushes them into flowering lack of N excess of P makes the plant start to burn stored sugars and it will begin to flower to adjust to conditions starting bloom nutes at first sign of preflower is how some breeders advise to keep there "fast" strains to finishing on time
ive had more then a few strains take 8 weeks to really start to flower then you figure atleast 4 to finish
