1st Timer, a few queries, please help ;)

hey guys,

newbie here, green as grass, lol, Ive heard and read a few things during my research, was hoping that someone could verify or add to my research, any help would me much grateful,

heres a few for starters,

1/ adding 2 drops of bio-degradable washing up liquid per litre of feed helps the potting medium hold on to the moisture for longer,

2/ adding a teaspoon of natural mollasses per litre of feed for the last 5-6 weeks of flowering increases the bud size, ( by up to 20 % in the case I read)

3\ the plants can grow perfectly well with regular all purpose plant feed from a garden centre

1 don't use soap
2 molsasses helps the soil or microbes in the soil feed the plant
3 you can find fair nutes at a garden center

Welcome to the forum! Yep, adding a couple drops of dishsoap to your soil will help it regain it's moisture retention. This isn't something you want to do every feed though, it's an "if there's a problem" measure only. Molasses (unsulphered) will help your buds gain weight, however - it's also good in veg, as it's other benefit, is to feed the positive bacteria in the soil. I start giving mine molasses at about two weeks of age! Lastly - yes, they will grow fine with cheap nutes. However - some of the cheaper ones have more of a tendancy to burn your plants, so be careful. They also won't perform quite as well for you. Here's a tip: google Jack's Classic nutes. I use them, they are a fraction of the cost of the more popular nutes, and the results are great. You want the All Purpose (20-20-20) for veg, and then combine that with the Blossom Booster (10-30-20) for flower. Good luck!

hey thanks for the info, Ive decided against the washing up liquid, ad perlite or vermiculite is going to do the same thing but with no damage,

spoke to a few people who swear by tomato feed all the way through to harvest, but looking at the N-P-K levels there no where near 20-20-20 or 10-30-20 there more like 3.5-5.5-7.5 well there or there abouts,
any ideas?

i have some feed at hand for veg an bloom, any feed back would be great,

for veg 27-8-14 for bloom 14-10-26:-?

Like I said, you can use it, just won't perform as well as some others would. The numbers on the tomato food are fine. It isn't the larger number you want, exactly, it's the balance. So the ones I gave you, you could also look at like 2-2-2 or 1-3-2. You see? What you have for veg would be ok - but not the other - you want a higher P than K, in flower.

yeah thats what I thought, and trust you to be right, but n-p-k- is nitrogen- phosphorus-potasium,

nitrogen, for green growth
phosphorus, for strong healthy roots
potasium, for flowering

could I add bone meal to my flower mix to bring up the p? would it work?

I know what NPK stands for - and you need the P, to be higher than the K, for flowering. Trust me - you don't need that much potassium to flower - and too much is a bad thing. Even with the bone meal, I wouldn't use it - the K is just too high. You are free to try it for yourself, of course.:peace:

Nah I'll take your advice, been to the garden centre today and got a winter citrus feed for my vegging which is 20-20-20, I also bought an african violet feed for my flowering which is 15-30-15, hopefully it will all come good, thanks for your help doe eyed, I'll give you an update when its up and running, :)
