V12 how long have you actually had your perpetual grow going on for?
 
Hey Neph. I've had all sorts of strategies going on in my case but I started perpetual a couple of years ago with 6 auto's at a time. If left untouched, the auto's don't seem to grow any wider than the pot they are in so you can ram loads in there :)
 
It's been a little over a week since my last update. The plants have been doing fine. Lots of growth all around.

Esme is hitting a spurt and getting new leaves and white hairs. She still is getting yellowing leaves though. I'm thinking I screwed up on the nutes. Right now she's just getting MG blooming nutes. Does she need just reg plant growing nutes too?

Daphnie is doing the best out of the bunch right now. She's growing nicely and the LST is working well. It was a good choice to plant her to on side of the pot. You'll see in the pics.

Jarobie is growing fast. I might need to transplant her out of her little cup soon.

Now for the bad news. I didn't check on them for like 3 days and I came back and they were jacked up. Jarobie leaves were brownish and faded dark gray. Esme's were mottled with brown spots. Daphnie was fine though.

That was yesterday today. I checked today and no change on Jarobie but Esme is worse. Her leaves look like Jarobie's did. I'm worried and I don't know what's causing this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm worried about Esme, and Jarobie. Daphnie seems fine though.

I've never seen that kind of damage before but it looks like maybe it's a heat issue. Those leaves don't have any signs of disease so I can't see what else could have caused the problem.
I would consider moving the plants down a couple of inches and maybe putting them under an upturned bottle or bag to raise the humidity and let them recover.
Got my fingers crossed for them.
LST looks great by the way.
 
Leave it to me to screw up so bad that you've never seen it done before. The damaged parts were completely fried, so we trimmed. I had already moved them from the lights. Maybe I should look into the purchase of some plexiglass. I'm guessing it must be a heat issue cause Esme looks so stunted. I looked at Amber and Esme is far behind, but the showed signs of sex around the same time. My friend called me today and said everything was looking better. If it was a heat issue it would explain why Daphnie wasn't affected. She's tied down pretty well.

I just realized it's been pretty humid here recently. Humidity increases heat right? So maybe that's what happend. They were fine with heat until it got humid. I still think maybe Esme's stunted so I'll work on a way to fix the heat issue.
 
You might want to check for pests too, I had thrips and some of the leaves looked like that. I see specks on the leaves too which is what prompted me originally to examine them under a microscope and discover my pest problem. I think i read somewhere too that pests often cause damage that looks like spots (which is them eating at something). Don't forget to check underneath too!

Anyways, I'll have my eye on this because I have a nice full size ATX case that I am looking to turn into a grow box too! Have you looked into LED panels? My idea was to use CFLs on top and line the sides with LED panels. I also was thinking of using a little rubbermaid tub to run a DWC inside. Ever thought of going hydro? The idea of a stand alone PC chassis with only one cord coming out of it powering hydro + lighting + ventilation is really appealing to me. PC cases are great too because you can optimize the airflow!
 
Mrcryce I've yet to see anymore brown spots since the the first time. I'll keep an eye out for thrips.

I know DW. They were doing so well. Maybe a little slow but the were coming along. I hope they will recovery just fine.
 
if mine could just back im sure yours can aswell. the beauty of plants, they are very forgiving...most of the time.
 
yeah that looks like heat for sure. i havelittle amounts of that on some older leaves that i let get too close to the light.
only using cfls. it happened again today too. just slight burns on the surface of the leaves.

but your plants have SEVERE dead leaf issues but lookes likes it's burnt to me.
definately lower the plants. i haven't read the whole thread but what is your ventilation like man? heat and temps inside ?
 
just read your only using a 30w cfl? can't really be a heat issue even with a small fan i would think.
must be the nutes??
 
majorly unlucky with that i have been following this thread for ages, all was good till now

keep them alive for me (and u i guess)

I think you should get some plastic bags or bottles over them to raise the humidity right away. Maybe lower them an inch or 2 as well as a precaution.
There's no sign of any bugs or nuteburn that I can see so don't worry about those too much. Floridasucks has taught me that high humidity isn't a problem either, so if anything it would be because it's too low in my opinion. Looks like the leaves just got too hot or too dry to me.
Can you show some pics of the intake / exhaust you are running? it might help us work out what's wrong.
If it makes you feel any better I've fried tons of little plants one way or another, so at least you are in good company :)
 
So I worked on my intake and exhaust a little. should get way better air flow now. I had moved them down already so I didn't move them any farther down. I also put a cup full of water in with them. That should help boost humidity right? Next time I get paid I'll go get a thermometer and a humidity gage. That wont be to the six though.

I have a question about Esme though. The white hairs she has don't grow very long and then they turn red. I'd say the only get a couple milimeters in length then they go red. Shouldn't they get longer? Should they be turning red so soon?

The gauges will be a wise investment.
I wouldn't be moving the fans down either. Remember that heat rises, so if your cool air is coming in from the bottom then it will stay there simply because it isn't as hot as the air already inside.
Those red hairs have to be caused by heat. If you look at any of the flower pics on here they all show white hairs in the early stages of flowering.

hmm personally im too paranoid to take a pic in my room (much less with TX license plates in the background)...btw grow looks good compared to mine, (liek i said i would post pics if i wasnt paranoid..)
 
I didn't move the fans down. I fixed it so the fan pulled directly across the light. The red hairs are starting to grow out and become white, and more white hairs are growing. Heat was deffenitely my issue.

Illicht those plates are old and not even mine, but just to be safe.

This isn't even my grow, this is all just pretend. Everything I post on www.rollitup.org is fictional.:rolleyes:
