I'm not so sure about that but plants work in mysterious ways. During an outdoor grow sometime back I visited my plants to notice one of my crown buds was nipped (maybe by an animal) and had fallen over and conveniently landed on the top of the stake I was using to hold the plant straight. I didn't clip it off because it was still looking very alive and once the plant started to flower, the bud began growing up despite the branch sideways. Interesting. Sorry I couldn't answer your question.

Yes ... if you top the plant, two shoots will come out from where you cut it to form two nice flowering colas. The two that grow out won't necessarly give you more buds than you would have had, had you left it alone. They won't be as fat as a single cola plant, but will be more mold resistant ... Not as thick, so not as much chance for moisture to remain in the center of the buds.

have you guys never read anything about growing before? How did you miss topping? I don't know where you are from, but I am assuming crown bud means the top...you can top or fim(fuck I missed)a plant topping results in 2 tops(colas, crowns whatever you wish to call them) fimming a plant can produce up to 8 tops with 1 cut...

Also for the noobs....topping your plant will make it grow more like a bush instead of a tree. Very handy if you have height limitations.
